Your guide will collect you from your hotel or train station to kick off this Mt Vesuvius and Pompeii day trip from Naples. Venture into the ancient Roman city of Pompeii on a half-hour coach ride and learn the history behind the area that was infamously covered by ash nearly 2000 years ago.

Follow your guide on a walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed site and learn about Europe’s largest archeological grounds. Stop at the Forum, Thermal Baths, Vetti’s House and the Lupanare brothel. Your guide will offer historical context and insight into local life here back in 79 AD. Once you’ve explored the grounds, savor an Italian pizza lunch with your group before enjoying time to wander the shops.

Afterward, travel by air-conditioned coach to Mt Vesuvius and journey on a moderate hike to the top of the active volcano with your guide. At the summit, some 3,900 feet (1,200 meters) above sea level, take in panoramic views of the Bay of Naples. Roam around the volcano's mammoth crater and keep an eye out for plumes of escaping steam. If you prefer to skip the hike, you'll enjoy free time while waiting for the group, but the trip to the top is definitely worth the effort.

After successfully climbing the top of Mt Vesuvius, relax with a ride back to your Naples hotel or back to the port in your comfortable coach.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Pompeii Archaeological Park
After pickup from your hotel or the Naples train station, take a 30-minute drive to Pompeii, an ancient Roman city that was entirely destroyed by the sudden eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD. The largest archaeological site in Europe, today Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When you arrive, your guide will pick up your group’s pre-ordered tickets and lead you on a 2-hour walking tour of the fascinating grounds. Witness the destruction first-hand as you visit Pompeii’s most famous sites, including the Forum, the Thermal Baths, Vetti's House and the Lupanare brothel, giving you a glimpse into daily life during the Pax Romana. Today you can see shapes of objects — even bodies — that were buried beneath the volcanic ash and pumice.
Duration: 2 hours
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Vesuvius National Park
After your tour, enjoy a pizza lunch with your group followed by some free time to browse the shops. Then board the coach and drive 40 minutes to legendary Mt Vesuvius. Embark on a moderate hike up the volcano with your guide. When you reach the summit at 3,900 feet (1,200 meters), you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the picturesque Bay of Naples from east to west. Peer down into the crater and see plumes of steam issuing from the sleeping, but still active, volcano! There is a rest point where you can choose to wait for your group if you do not wish to climb all the way to the top, but the hike is worth the effort. After your Mt Vesuvius hike, relax on the drive back to Naples in the early evening.

Do it!!

Great experience with my family. My husband, daughter (4), and I went on this and had a great time. The time flies by quickly; we had about 2hrs inside the city of Pompeii and about 1:20 to go up and down Vesuvius. If you need/want more time than this, then this may not be ideal for you. The lunch that is included is delicious and so is the atmosphere. Our guide, Francesca was very nice, informative, and sweet (especially toward my daughter). We had a memorable experience and are so glad we did this!

Our tour guide Helga was amazing she got us where we need to go even though Our family was not on time. She pointed out several things on the way up to Mount Vesuvius that were really neat facts. Would definitely do a trip with her again

An underwhelming experience in Pompeii and the Volcano
Dmitry_S

Having been in Naples before and done the Pompeii tour, I wanted my kids to experience the ancient city and climb to the top of the volcano. This was something my kids were looking forward to the entire trip and we were left a bit disappointed. We were picked up by our hotel in a minibus which took us to get a few more people along the way until we arrived in Pompeii. We got the headsets and were thought we will start with the tour but not so fast, the guide gives us about 35 minutes to walk around to shop for souvenirs which are honestly tacky and overpriced. We then proceed with our English speaking guide who took us around the city rather quickly hitting some highlights but not giving us that much time to explore. We spent about an hour and a half inside the city and then the group split between those who would continue onto Vesuvius and those who would go back to Naples or Sorento. Since we booked the all inclusive trip, we stayed for lunch which was a choice of underwhelming spaghetti with tomato sauce or margarita pizza. The lunch was fast but we still had to wait about an hour and then some to start on the next leg of our journey. We got into another bus that took us to the base of the volcano where we had to climb. By the time we got there, we were given about an hour and 20 minutes to get up and back down which was not a lot of time at all, especially when you had kids with you. The hike up the mountain probably took us 40 minutes and when you get close to the top, there are guides who wouldn't let us explore on our own. By the time we made it to the top we only had about 15 minutes to look around the crater which was not enough time and the kids had run out of gas. So we took some pictures and quickly walked back down to the base where we were rushed back to the bus and taken to our hotel. I think this would have gone much smoother if the guides were more organized and time conscious so we could have appreciated the sites we were seeing more.

Not worth the money

My friend and I went on the tour to Pompeii and Vesuvius and we were not impressed. There was barely any Covid restrictions, with a small van filled to complete capacity. The drive to Pompeii had only one tour guide who was expected to speak in 4 languages since the van had so many people - so essentially the tour didn’t actually start until after 11:15. Once we got to Pompeii we had to wait for the other vans to come to fill up the English-speaking tour. Our tour guide in Pompeii was good, but there was so many people in our group it was hard to follow. For the price we paid I expected a lot more from the operator. After Pompeii there was a short speech from a third guide on the bus to Vesuvius, and then that was the whole tour.

Yes Sir, on the way to Pompeii on board we have just an escort, a coordinator. Once on site we split the group between more guides, one for every language and we provide everybody earphones to better follow the visit. On Vesuvius there is one more different guide to lead the group. Regards

What a day! Francesca was informative and helpful. Went with a 15 and 10 year old and they were interested the whole time. The hike up Vesuvius is challenging but attainable and Pompeii was as amazing as I had hoped. Definitely recommend.

The trip was a great experience and the tour guide Francesca made it even more awesome. She was so funny and at the same time, so informative and caring. She explained the history of Pompeii very well. The hike to Pompeii was very moderate (and so, everyone can do it) and views were awesome. Overall, the trip was worth the money.

Great tour for seeing main sights, but a bit rushed
Anami

Our guides were friendly and spoke great English. We got to see the main sights in Pompeii quickly and efficiently and hike Vesuvius. Lunch was very simple but good (pizza or spaghetti). It is a good tour if you just want to see the main sights. You will only see a tiny part of Pompeii tho, be aware, and it is quite rushed. If you are very interested in exploring Pompeii, taking your time, and seeing the museum parts there, you are better off going at your own pace with a book or audio guide. If you just want to see the main sights, get a ‘taste’ of Pompeii, then it is perfect.
