Get out of your coach, and take a walking tour around the heart of the city. With one of the largest medieval towns in Europe, Genoa is fascinating to explore and retains a charm from its days as an ancient maritime republic. Learn about sights such as the ancient harbor, redesigned by Renzo Piano in 1992, and wander the enchanting Old Town lanes with your guide.

After a break for lunch at your own expense, you’ll meet back with your guide for a short cruise to Portofino. The chic seaside village, shaped like a crescent moon, has attracted praise from visitors for centuries. Hear about Guy de Maupassant who wrote about the village, and other writers and poets who have fallen for its charms.

Return by boat to another seaside town of Santa Margherita, then board your coach for the journey back to Milan. Your tour finishes in the center of Milan, near Via Cusani and Largo Cairoli.

Do it for Portofino
Brendan S
, Oct 2019
Portofino, and the beautiful views that it comes with, are worth the price of admission here. Genova is fine, and the tour experience was very enjoyable. But make no mistake that Portofino is the climax of this trip. Do yourselves an absolute favor, and do not merely enjoy Portofino from the ground in the bay. Ascend the stairs to the patio of Castle Brown, Pat the five euros and breathe in the views looking down on Portofino. To not do so would be a tragedy.

Not enough time

We were picked up at 10 to 6, taken to the tour office, dumped out on a dark street to wait for 45 minutes. At the last minute the boat to Portofino cancelled. Sylvia, our guide, got us there on a very packed public bus. Our very short hour in Portofino was cut to an even shorter 30 minutes. I would like to think the company would refund some of what we paid since Portofino was the reason most people went on the tour.

Loved this trip back in September 2017. A full day with a guide and plenty of free time. Better to take the tour than do it on your own. So much beauty and history included.

Very well planned day trip. The guide was excellent and gave us lots of info on general local Italian customs and history. Also about food that is typical of the area. Portofino was absolutely beautiful and I had a good lunch in one of the waterfront restaurants. Also really enjoyed the boat trip from Santa Marguerita to Portofino. A long but very good day
