Itinerary
Stop At:
Borgo Storico di Manarola
Leaving Milan, you arrive directly at the Cinque Terre and via a scenic route on the coast you reach Manarola. Here you'll have free time to venture around the vineyards, stroll the piers where fishing boats line the shore or watch the locals and the tourists jumping into the sea from the rocks of the harbour!
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Free
Stop At:
Footpath Monterosso - Vernazza
Right before lunch time you catch the train to Monterosso al Mare, the biggest of the five villages, where you will have time to explore and visit the beaches dotted along the coast. Despite the number of tourists, there is still a real sense of local identity even in the most tourist-crammed little ‘piazze'. Restaurants, bars and accommodation all have an endearingly homespun air about them as though when the locals saw tourists coming, they found a few garden chairs to stick on their terrace, hand painted a sign and began serving customers.
Duration: 2 hours
Admission Ticket Free
Pass By:
Cinque Terre Trails
During your free time, if you wish, you will able to explore the beginning of some of the trails leading inside the Cinque Terre national park.
Pass By:
Parco Naturale Regionale di Porto Venere
From Monterosso you will start the final leg of your journey, probably the most inspiring, a 90 minutes boat cruise. The perfect way to admire the stunning views of the Cinque Terre and the delightful village of Portovenere from the sea. After this memorable experience, you will arrive at La Spezia where your coach will be waiting to take you back to Milan.

Totally overpriced! We only saw 2 villages and boat trip ( why we booked the trip in the first place) was cancelled due to bad wearther previous day. No refunds. We wanted to do the tour on our own but because the cost of boattrip was high we decided to take the tour because it is included! No REFUND! We were just dumped in the villages to do our own thing. The guide did not even bother to take us to the church which was my highlight. If we did not accidentally stumble apon it we would have missed it

Quaint little part of Italy worth exploring

Our guide, Inna, was very friendly and knowledgeable and helped make for an interesting day on the drive from Milan to Cinque Terre. Once at Cinque Terre we were held up due to the limited number of buses that can go there at any one time (not the tour operator's fault), and sitting around waiting for the "green light" from the traffic control officer was a little frustating. The delay meant we didn't get much time in the first town we visited since we had to then catch a train to the second town. Again, this wasn't the tour operator's fault as it depends entirely on traffic. This region of Italy is absolutely worth visiting though as the little towns nestled on the cliffs are very pretty, and the boat cruise along the coast gave us some stunning views from a different perspective.

Beautiful place but awful tour

Cinque Terre is a scenic place worth seeing. I just wouldn't take this tour. Our tour guide was hard to understand and very disorganized. We almost missed one train and missed the second one due to his poor planning and organization. We were supposed to return at 7:00 PM but instead we got back at 9:00. Thus a long 12 hour day turned into a 14 hour one. When we arrived in La Sensia he took us out of the train station and made us walk about 3/4 of a mile and across a very busy road without a crosswalk or signal to meet the bus rather than having the bus pick us up from the train station. It was clear that he didn't care about the customers. If this had been my first Viator tour I would never take another one.

A good 1st glance

This is a nice escape from the City. While in no way comprehensive it is a glance and if you are pleased I am sure you would return on your own. The tour went very smooth and well timed. I would probably opt for a lounge and swim verses at sit down lunch at Monterosso. I did buy the special shaped pasta of the region and enjoying it back here in Nor Cal

Fantastic day trip to Cinque Terre

We truly enjoyed our time on this tour. Super organized. Small group (less than 20). Well trained tour leader. Effective use of time. The only suggestion I would make viator is in the description to put to bring bathing suits and towel. We had a good hour to spare and in the heat of summer we would have enjoyed to go in the Mediterranean and cool off but since we didn’t know that was a possibility we didn’t bring any bathing suits or towels with us. Wish we knew.

Worth it!

It’s a long day but very worth it, especially if you haven’t got time to spend more than a day visiting Cinque Terre. Our guide was informative but not over the top and allowed us time to explore. Manarola was beautiful & quaint (but busy) and the least amount of time was spent there - get some of the focaccia, it’s great. It may also mean you don’t want a ‘sit-down’ lunch in a restaurant in Monterosso which allows more time for exploring. From there we got the train to Monterosso where we had longer and time for lunch or sunbathing! Monterosso is larger and has a bit more going on. From there we got a boat along the coast so you’re able to see all of the towns from the sea. We had a 20 minute stop in Portovenere - time for an ice cream and a few more photos before getting a different boat back to La Spezia and where the coach was waiting for us. It allowed me to realise I want to go back and spend more time there.

The boat ride is unacceptable. (Cinque Terre is nice)

A trip to Cinque Terre is an all day affair but it's worth it. There is a short train ride and a boat ride back to the bus. The boat ride is horrible. It's really overcrowded with people standing and sitting on the floor for 2 hours! Unacceptable! Add more boats or stop using these boats on this tour. I asked the workers on the boat if they would like to stand for 2 hours or sit on the floor...I complained. Unbelievable.

Great option for "quick" trip to Cinque Terre

We didn't have a lot of time for traveling around in Italy. Having a chance for a day trip to CinqueTerre was great. A nice change of pace from visiting cities and our driver and guide were professional and pleasant. We appreciated the mix of information and free time. Obviously, if you have more time, you can visit and hike and swim for days...but if you've only got a day...this is the perfect way to do it. The day is long but...definitely worth it.

Nice tour!

The tour was nice, the guide was wonderful but the time we spent in a public boat.... I would say it is not worthy. We could explore more cities or relax on less cities if we had used only the train. The boat is a big ferry that goes far from the shore on a very slow pace. Waste of time. The guide was wonderful and very professional.
