    Make your way to a meeting point or arrange pickup at your accommodation. Join a local guide and group for a tour of the city’s key sites. Starting with Cathedral Square, you see a bell tower with the largest astronomical clock in the world, a complex mechanism built by a pair of brothers from Strasbourg.

    Duck into the cathedral to see Byzantine mosaics, then continue to the nearby Annunziata dei Catalani Church, an exquisite example of Norman-Arab architecture. See the Mountain of Mercy and the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi, one of the oldest churches in Messina, dating back to the year 1254.

    Enjoy other stops including the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele III, the Votive Temple of Christ the King, the Sanctuary of Madonna of Montalto, the Four Fountains.

    First of all, let me say that our guide was very knowledgeable and even though she had a bit of the her accent, she was understandable and dedicated to telling us about her city. However we were not provided the voice box for hearing the guide and as a result, the overwhelming noise of traffic and the wind blowing in from the waterfront, which was part of the tour we were taking part in, was nearly impossible to hear. I While i'm sure there was a good reason that the company could not provide them ( even though this was supposed to be provided according to the advertisement for the tour) and I'm sure our guide believed that she could deliver a quality tour without the use of the hearing devices, many of my fellow attendants also complained during the tour about the inability to hear the guide. For these reasons I would not encourage anyone to take this tour unless there was a guarantee of the provision of the hearing devices.

    Chiara was an excellent guide. Very good explanation of everything all along the walk. we were in the right place at the right time to watch the 12-noon clock tower technology in action. We now have a good understanding of the history of Messina. Our stop at the local Gelateria (included) at th end of the tour was a bonus.. thank you Chiara.

    Chiara was our guide and she was full of personality and information! She showed us so much that we never would have discovered on our own! She was especially great in answering our questions and giving everyone time to get to the many places we visited.We will never forget that amazing bell tower and the wild lion roar! We heard that her company's van had been destroyed by fire and we hope that the culprits are caught and that Chiara and her colleagues are able to continue with their fine work!

    We were able to see the important sites in central Messina at a comfortable pace and stop in to an authentic local food purveyor to sample some locally grown foods. Our tour guide also showed us a piazza not listed in most guide books but we found a treasure in walking through the Piazza Municipio. She lead us to the Cathedral Piazza in time to see the noon astronomical clock performance. Afterwards, she directed us to some shopping areas, although many of them were closed for siesta.

    Fantastic place with excellent views. A must to see and a guided tour is definitely the way to do this. Our guide was there on time and through the whole tour she was very attentive to all of us. Lots of steps but she gave us time enough to climb them all. A drink was included at the end and WOW you needed it.
