Sometimes things do not work out...

So we were in New Malden, outside London, and the rail strike had happened Tuesday. I should have canceled these tickets. Because Thursday it hit again and there was no way to get to the meeting point at 8:30 am without spending $150 plus. I think the problem with booking tours in advance is that if something goes wrong, you pay the price in a big way. We spent $549 for this tour for 4 people. I contacted the tour organizer but they never responded. I gave 3 stars because its not the operators fault, or Viators, but I will never book a big tour this way again. Too much can go wrong. Without the strike, it would have taken us just about an hour and a few bucks to get to the meeting point.

Windsor, Stonehenge, Oxford

It was a fast day, but it was a good sampling of 3 sites. Bruce was great - enough information, but also time to relax between locations.

Tour is fine but you need to bring your own food with you especially if you have children.

First off I really wish this had been a tour of just Windsor Castle and Stonehenge. That is a tour that you just can't find. Every tour company wants to add in with a side trip to Bath or to Oxford. Frankly I think companies are missing the boat there. Three stops with the restrictions on the driver's behind the wheel time just doesn't give you enough time at any of the sites. That being said we did enjoy this tour. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history behind each site and what we could expect at each stop. Windsor and Stonehenge were awesome but definitely needed more time at Stonehenge. It was lunch time and we had no opportunity to get lunch at the cafeteria which was jam packed (as was the gift shop). This resulted in us getting to Oxford "hangry". We needed to leave the tour to go find something to eat. I recommend the tour, but please note you are not allowed to bring on coffee in the morning and they ask you not to bring food onboard that has strong odors. But you absolutely MUST bring your own food on the tour. Don't assume you will have time to pick up any along the way - especially in the touristy summer or holiday times.

Great sites, terrible tour guide

While the site visits were pleasant since you are visiting some of the most beautiful landmarks in the UK, the tour experience was another story. The tour guide, TRACE, needs to be FIRED pronto. She hates her job and made the entire experience unpleasant for everyone. It would have been nice if she had just been quiet all the way or we had been sent with the driver (Kieron BTW was amazing). She has condescending, kept sighing along the way and was completely unpredictable. There was no heads up on lunch breaks, so we ended up starving. She kept reiterating how she would leave everyone behind if they were not on time. Pro-tip, take the shuttle to Stonehenge and you will save at least 40 minutes in walking (which she did not tell anyone).

The guide and driver were really nice and professional, Ari and Bomir. We were disappointed that the trip to Stonehenge was cancelled. We got to the pick up point and we’re told that that portion of the trip was cancelled while settling on the bus. So that was a huge disappointment.

Speed Visit

Had very little time at each location, maybe due to the crowds and wait times to enter. An accident en route to Oxford put us even farther behind schedule and a time adjustment wasn’t provided by Golden Tours.

Cross 3 off the bucket list

I expected opulence in Windsor Castle and mystical presence from Stonehenge but the historical introductions given by Dominic set each of the stops in perfect context. He did this in an amusing style while engaging us in a back & forth dialogue. Before setting us loose in Oxford, he presented an overview of many of the universities which was sufficiently detailed to make seeing them all desirable. He made it a great experience

Horrible and Dishonest company

Winsor tour was promised to be 2h and was actually staying for 40 or 45 minutes and not time to go even to bathroom. On top of everything they keep changing time when to return to bus and left without us not even waiting 5 minutes or attempt to contact us. So we took train to London and we spend 58 pounds extra. We asked to refund and they refused. This is the worst tour I ever been. I would avoid at any cost. In Train station we been told that this company viator use do it all the time. You spend 515$ and feel like a ....hirible experience!!!they also refusing to return money

Good tour but bad guide

The tour experience is truly memorable. The Palace of Westminster is a unique place and visiting Stonehedge is something different and unimaginable. Despite understanding the behavior and risks of a tour, the guide is definitely an indispensable variable and in this case our guide Trace is the most apathetic, inattentive and rude person, all the time reflecting that she hates her job.

Great tour. A bit rushed, but if you want to see three places in one day, you have to expect that. Our guide, Marina, was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and made sure we were always safe and accounted for. Would definitely recommend.

Positives: windsor castle and stonehenge. Beautiful places and great study of history. Comfortable bus ride. Negatives : oxford tour was a bit disappointing. Our tour guide was awful: Extremely rude and curt. Was funny when he wanted to be funny. He kept telling off ppl. It's essential to be on time but just going on stressing on that is a bit much.. Personally I felt it was too little time in every place. This tour could be about 2 hours longer to give us about 1/2 hour more at each location and 1 hour more at oxford. We barely got to eat at any of the locations: We were running everytime because we were scared that we will miss our bus. Stonehenge and windsor were beautiful!! Oxford we got no time to really go inside any college to see how beautiful it was. As we got off and just decided to eat. Its high price for the quality you get.

THREE STOPS IN ONE FUN DAY!!
Angela_B
, May 2022
HIGHLY recommend if you’re trying to see a lot in one day!! Not as rushed as I expected, but certainly fast paced at each stop. If your mobility is hindered and you move slowly, don’t do it. If you really want to study the interior of the buildings or wander a lot, you will feel rushed. Several of us on the tour agreed we would prefer more time in Oxford or Windsor and less at Stonehenge, which really only needs to be as quick a stop as possible, depending on the length of the lines. (And I will say they did try to keep it brief, to the best of their ability). Even 15 minutes less would help. You could spend a whole afternoon in either Windsor or Oxford, easily. But again, if you’re short on time and can only do one day trip out of London, this is a good one. You quickly tour each stop, get lots of photos and do some quick shopping then move on. Note - the church at the end of the walking tour in Oxford closes at 5pm. We walked up to the door as the bells were ringing and didn’t get to walk through it. We only wanted two minutes indoors and were disappointed. Had we known, we would have headed straight there first during our free time. (If you’re a CS Lewis fan, go to the church and then see the lamppost outside the doors!!) The TOUR BUS was great. Very large and comfortable, and because we had three stops on this tour, the drive was broken up nicely. Enjoyed the bus downtime after busy days walking all over London. Ours had screens with tour information, charging outlets, and a bathroom!! But that is NOT guaranteed, so don’t count on it. NOTE: Lunch break is not designated. I HIGHLY recommend packing your lunch, snacks and water so you don’t waste time trying to find food and waiting in lines. Food IS available at each stop. However, your free time is precious and eating on the bus or just outside while you wait for everyone to return to the meeting points was allowed and ideal. Bring some cash for small vendors here and there, but credit cards are widely accepted and even required at some places. PABLO!!!! - Our tour guide made the trip!! He is so sweet and funny and knowledgeable. Had great information and helpful tips. He was a joy to spend the day with. He knew the best spot for Stonehenge photos and took some for us, and with us! :) Overall, a fantastic day and I’m so glad we did it. Well worth the expense, which was very reasonable in my opinion. Enjoy!!

Danxia & Kiran from Golden Tours were amazing! I would recommend them to anyone. They got us to every destination early, giving us extra time at each place and did such a nice job explaining & offering background on each destination.

Our guide Trish was excellent - knowledgeable, interesting and conducted our entire tour in both English and Spanish. Our driver Kieran was proactive in finding an alternate route when there was a traffic accident that would have delayed our return to London significantly.
