Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood and the most charming one, it’s considered the historic soul of Lisbon and its steep, cobblestoned lanes stand just as they were in medieval times. This area is best known for its fado houses and the great festivities of Lisbon which honors “Santo António” (St. Anthony) during the month of June, luring thousands of people into the streets. This neighbourhood resisted to the terrible earthquake of 1755 and this is one of the main reasons that contributed to the preservation of its authenticity. This charming area retains some of the Moorish atmosphere with its alleys, staircases and clothes drying on the windows.

Stressful ride

Tour guide Thomas was very sweet and shared interesting info! That being said, Lisbon is not a fun city for electric bike tour. Road is made of old beat up tile with large cracks for bike tires, you must stay within small lane between curb and trolly rails- or your tire will get stuck in rail, all the while lots of traffic: cars, trolleys, and buses on your back. I have done many electric bike tours- this tour was super stressful.

Fun but crowded route
Pam_S

This was not our first time on an e-bike and I would discourage first-timers from participating due to the congestion on the streets traveled. Or at least avoid going on a weekend which was our case. The sights were beautiful and the knowledgeable guide (Peter) added to the fun. One bike broke down during the first hill; however, it was quickly replaced by the staff.

A let down

Our tour guide was unfortunately not very knowledgeable so it was kind of disappointing. He knew enough to talk about the very basic and minimal amounts at each spot we stopped at. While the Electric Bikes were a nice way to get around as they did most the work for you going up all the hills (mind you, you do need to still pedal), I feel that we would have been better off doing a different tour as we were really there for the history portion.

Lisbon through a different lens

Well worth it! You see parts of lisbon you would never realise was there. Our guide Peter completely made it for us. On top of ensuring safety at all times (as me and a bike are not a natural combination!), his knowledge of lisbon past to present was just exceptional. Would highly recommend this tour.

Really enjoyable tour. Our guide Maria was super friendly and informative and made the history of the city come alive. Some of the roads are not for the faint hearted with traffic but overall a great experience.
