Why Travelers Choose This Tour
This upgraded Hoover Dam tour promises a comfortable ride and unique views from the Colorado River.
A visit to the Hoover Dam paired with a Colorado River float is a unique way to explore this momentous slice of U.S. History. During your tour enjoy ample time learning about this engineering wonder of the world through live presentations, exhibits, and a captivating film that investigates the Dam’s backstory and construction. Cap off your outing with a visit to see the power plant’s massive generators and some time on the observation deck.
Later, be treated to sensational views of the Colorado River and Lake Mead, the Western Hemisphere’s largest man-made lake. Board a van at the Lake Mead Overlook, and drive along the route on Lower Portal Road that the Dam crews of yesteryear once traveled. On the way, you can see the original gauging station that measured water level and flow as well as the storage bunkers that held dynamite during the Dam’s construction.
Next, get ready for some breathtaking views. A guided raft tour takes you floating on the Colorado River for an up-close and rarely seen look at the Hoover Dam, its power plants, and the stunning Black Canyon. Your guide shares tidbits of history as you float along the river beneath the extraordinary panorama of the Hoover Dam Bypass project—a 2,000-foot bridge built in 2010 spanning over 900 feet. Be sure to have your camera on hand as this tour gives you an incredible vantage point to capture photographs of the Hoover Dam and Colorado River.
Drive through the historic Boulder City as you make your way to the Hoover Dam. Your guide will explain the area and history of this charming city.
It’s on to the most unique element of the tour—a 90-minute float on the Colorado River for an up-close look at the dam. See the Hoover Dam itself and the bypass bridge as you travel down the river. See concrete slabs, steps and rails used to build the Dam. A snack is provided by Black Canyon while on the raft.
Head to the Arizona side of the Hoover Dam after your raft portion of the tour. See the Dam from above and stop off at the small gift shop. After stopping off on the Arizona side, make your way down to the Nevada side for the next portion of the tour. Your guide will walk you along the Dam and narrate the area, history and some facts. Next up, is the power plant tour inside the Dam. Led by a Bureau of Reclamation employee, you'll experience a 30-minute tour underground to see this historical landmark. Spend some free time at the Visitor Center afterwards before returning to Las Vegas.
WOW! What else can we say. The tour(s) were great in and of themselves, but, our tour guide, Jessie, made the whole experience fabulous. Professional and fun - Jessie was great. We did the top and bottom tours. You simply must do this. The Hoover Dam is amazing! To only do the top or only do the bottom will leave you with only half an understanding of this man-made marvel.
Jerry, our tour guide, was extremely friendly and made everyone feel comfortable right from the start by introducing us, asking us questions, and making us laugh. His constant narration as we drove was interesting and made the trip go quickly with no awkward silence. Everything ran smoothly, the pink jeep SUV was comfortable, and Jerry made sure to give us lots of bottled water. His details about the dam made it so much more interesting than it would have been if we hadn't done a tour. The raft ride was also fun and seeing the dam and the bridge from the water view below was beautiful. It was a week of excessive heat warning around 112 degrees that day, but Jerry kept reminding us to drink lots and he gave us frozen towels as we were learning about the dam while in the sun. The inside tour was cool to see as well and we learned a lot about the history and structure of the dam with those guides, but it was much more fun to listen to Jerry! On the way back we stopped at a small park with a great view of Lake Mead and a whole bunch of mountain sheep relaxing in the shade. It was only a few minutes, but it really made the trip special.
This was fantastic! It provided an incredible view of the majesty of the Hoover Dam. Adding to that was the hidden view of little tunnels along the waterline of the mountainside. The silence we experienced while in the boat was..well, total silence. Recommend to all!
Really enjoyed this morning long trip that took in the full Hoover Dam experience, you will get to know everything worth knowing about the dam and more about the history around the construction. The raft ride was good and got us as close to the dam as was allowable. Jerry, our guide, was brilliant all day long and made everyone feel well looked after. Highly recommended!!
This was one of the best things we did on our trip. The tour guide was fantastic and a plethora of knowledge about every detail of Vegas growth and development over the years to environmental and animal life. On time, comfortable and worth every penny.
My husband and I took this tour on a recent trip to Las Vegas and it was time and money well spent. The van was clean and comfortable and the driver prompt, courteous and friendly. It allowed us access to parts of the dam area we would not have seen on our own due to heightened security measures: the power plant side of the dam and the Colorado River, the interior of the power plant, and the ability to walk across and take photos from the new Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. Highly recommended for access to the dam and a different perspective from the Colorado River.
