Your tour begins in Krakow, where you’re picked up directly from your hotel. Journey to the Wieliczka Salt Mine and, upon arriving, make the descent 440 feet (135 meters) below ground, passing through tunnels and chambers on three levels.

Travel through each unique chamber with your guide, learning the history behind the centuries-old salt mine. Hear the legend of the Hungarian princess, Kinga, whose dowry included the salt mines when she married Boleslaw the Shy over 700 years ago. Explore the ornate Chapel of the Blessed Kinga, with altarpieces and chandeliers made from natural salt deposits, and visit an underground salt-mining exhibition.

The last stop on your visit to the mine is the souvenir shop and snack bar. From here, shoot back up to the surface in a high-speed lift, where you will be returned to your Krakow hotel.

We booked for this tour but the morning on making on way to the meeting point we got lost so we rang them to let them know and they said the bus had left without us! We then offered to get a taxi to the salt mines to meet the guide and group and we were also told this would not be possible!!!! So we lost our money that we had paid Viatour!!!! We also had to pay for a taxi to the salt mines and purchase 2 more tickets and then pay for a taxi home!!!! So not impressed at all Also I am not sure why you are asking me for a review as you didn’t take us!!!!!!

A breathtaking tour of almost unbelievable engineering, artistic and of course mining skills over several hundred years. If you ever visit Krakow you HAVE to do this tour. There is much talk of required fitness levels etc There are about 800 steps virtually all downwards with a lift to bring you out at the end, it's not that taxing but you need to be able bodied for sure. Wear sensible shoes,/trainers? and be prepared for warmer temperatures when down the mine. I wore a lightweight puffer jacket on the surface and a thin cotton shirt for the walk below and was comfortable throughout. Claustrophobic? If this is a problem for you the worst of the tour would be the initial descent down the wooden staircase at the start. So if this became an issue you could back track quickly and get out if needed. But it's not bad, really it's not. However the staff have seen it all before and there are contingency plans for everything. The statues, the carvings, the structures and sheer brilliance of those that worked down there has to be seen to be believed. To add to that the courage of the miners can only be admired when you see what they've done and hear from the guides the hazards they faced every day. And to think the works you'll see were completed several hundred years ago without heavy mechanical tools or electricity/lighting. You will only see a tiny percentage of the mine on your tour. One percent for the normal route and a further one percent for the miners experience route. The mine is huge! Go and visit, you will not be disappointed, guaranteed.

Loved all aspects of the trip from our pocket rocket guide Natalya, the underground churches to the pit lift ride at the end. Well worth it.

Well organised tour

Well organised 1/2 day tour, including pick up from hotel, entrance fee and guided tour around the salt mine. My only criticism would be that it would be good to have maybe 20 mins at the end to look around gift shop and have a drink in underground cafe before we have to get lift back up to top.

Great day at salt mines

My wife and I booked this trip at 19.00 o'clock the night before we went, they were responsive on the emails. They didn't do a hotel collection from our hotel but it was ok as we only had to walk 5 minutes to a nearby hotel where they picked us up at 8.00am We got in a nice coach, the lady who was looking after us was great and when we got to the salt mines she handed us over to a funny and very knowledgeable tour guide. The mines were amazing, impressive and sometimes jaw dropping. The whole day went well and we were back in the old town by 13.00.

Four of us visited and three people enjoyed it. I thought it was a little monotonous but maybe it just wasn’t my thing.

Really good tour, be warned lots of steps! Some interesting facts and amazing sculptures. Only downside was that my receiver didn’t pick up the tour guide’s commentary very well at times so I missed quite a bit of what he was saying, a shame as he clearly knew his stuff
