A Quick Trip Into Nature
DCJerseyGirl
, Nov 2019
I didn't want my trip to Poland to be only about cities and history - for a full experience, I wanted to experience nature and see what has been protected as a park. This trip to Ojcow was perfect - its the closest park to a city you can find. We did not get 6 hours. We were gypped out of almost an hour. Everything did not go smoothly. But for a trip into nature, we got what we wanted. Our guides were late picking us up. No two-ways about it (they tried to say they could not find us), but they were not there. It would not have been that big of a deal if we were not denied time at the end-still, we saw what we wanted to see. Headed to the park, our guide and drive got lost. Yes... they got lost. They said they go there often, but there they were with maps and looking for signals. At one point, we drove down a road, only to turn around again due to construction. After that, we were informed that we would do the tour backwards.... no big deal cuz we were going to see what we wanted to see. We start out at the Pieskowel Castle - we walked up the path and had a look at the grounds. We had coffee together overlooking the forest. We did not go into the castle because we decided on the cave. After we walked down the backside to see Hercules Club we met our driver and headed to the Chapel on the Water.... see, we were seeing stuff. And the limestone formations were interesting. Our guide was a geologist and we talked a bit about the ecological history of the area (under an ancient sea). After the castle, we headed to the big attraction - the limestone cliffs and the gloved hand. In the drop-off area our guide and drive argued - phones did not work and there was no way to communicate where to pick us up. I suggested we just walk. So we walked... it wasn't a hard or strenuous walk - it passed a small village, some fish ponds, followed a stream to the views. Gates that mark the opening to the Medieval Road. The Hand. All surrounded by trees changing for the season. Our guide made some rude comments to us but we ignored it because this trip was about nature. Our guide was obviously having issues with our driver. Once back to the car, the guide and driver argued again loudly. When she finally explained it was about time. We could not visit the cave because if we did, by the time we ended, they would be over by 30 minutes on our tour. No time to circle back to the castle either. We lost time on the front and back end. Nature was impressive though
