Overview

Krakow’s UNESCO-listed Old Town is the city’s most atmospheric district and the best way to explore is on foot. This 3-hour walking tour checks off all the highlights, including the Royal Route and the Wawel Castle complex; the medieval St. Mary’s Basilica and 17th-century St Peter and Paul’s Church; and the historic Cloth Hall.
  • 3-hour walking tour of Krakow’s Old Town
  • Discover the UNESCO-listed monuments of Krakow’s oldest district
  • Explore the Royal Route and the Wawel Castle complex
  • Admire architectural wonders such as St Peter and Paul’s Church, St Mary’s Basilica, and the Cloth Hall
  • Learn more about Krakow’s fascinating history and heritage from a local guide
Meet your guide in Krakow’s Main Market Square in time for a 2pm departure and set out to explore the city’s UNESCO-listed Old Town.

Follow your guide down the Royal Route, and walk in the footsteps of the Polish Kings as you hear about Krakow’s stint as the royal capital. Pause to see historic landmarks such as St. Florian's Church, and admire the grand medieval buildings along Floriańska, Grodzka, and Kanonicza Streets.

Arrive at Wawel Castle and spend time exploring the magnificent castle complex, including the Cathedral, the Royal Chambers, and the Armory. Marvel at the Medieval, Romanesque, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural styles, and take in the views from the top of Wawel Hill, gazing out over the Vistula River and the gold-roofed Sigismund Chapel.

Continue to Rynek Główny, where the star attraction is the 13th-century St. Mary’s Basilica, home to an impressive altarpiece by Veit Stoss, and some striking paintings by artists including Matejko, Mehoffer, and Wyspiański. Nearby, St Peter and Paul’s Church is another important religious monument, build in the 17th century and still the most significant Jesuit church in Krakow.

After enjoying a coffee break (own expense) at a local café, visit one of the city’s most photographed landmarks – the elaborate Cloth Hall and the Underground Museum.

Your tour ends around 5pm back in the Main Market Square.

Michael was our guide (10 of us on the tour). He arrived just before the start time at the specified location. He informed us that this was his 9th year as a tour guide in Krakow. He was informative and interesting without overwhelming you with information. We'd definitely recommend this to give you an overview of the Old Town before re-visiting at your leisure and entering some of the buildings on the way.

We highly recommend that you take time to participate in a walking tour as opposed to another form of transport unless specifically needed. As you will see in detail some specific features of the city that you would otherwise miss. Having a guide like Konrad who is informative, humouristic, knowledgable and speaks good clear English made our experience even more special. Konrad was able to give us current information by connecting historical facts with the present time to enable us to envisage how Poland is shaped now. We thank you Konrad. You all know by now that what makes a walking tour interesting is the guide, and ours was the best! Alex was very knowledgeable about Kraków’s history and he is one good storyteller. Very interactive with us and always checked if we wanted to take a break. Thank you Alex!

Organisation was a shambles we were told to meet at a different location to others. Spent half an hour on the phone trying to find the tour guide. Tour description misleading you do not go inside any of the sites visited. Went into Wawel castle but not inside any of the buildings. The guide was not very good. Disappointing trip could have done it ourselves from a guidebook.

Good Overview

As it turned out, it was just myself and my husband on this tour. Our guide was a history teacher and well versed in the Krakow history. We visited all of the main sites in Old Town and were blessed with beautiful 73 degree weather. We enjoyed being familiarized with all the sites Pope John Paul visited and preached. The castle cathedral was not as luxurious as those in western Europe, but beautiful none the same. The tour gave us a great overview of the Old Town. Several sites we visited the next day and were able to explore in more depth.

Our guide was a nice gentleman originally from Krakow. He was very knowledgeable and knew a lot about the history and architecture. We visited and observed a lot of things/places that you would probably miss or not know about. There were only 3 people on the tour, it was very enjoyable and personal being such an small group. This was a great introduction to Krakow on our first day and we would highly recommend this visiting the city.

Our guide was young but had an excellent sense of humour, having lived in America for a large part of his life his English was very good and there were no issues understanding everything he said. The walk was pleasant and gave us a good overview of the city.
