7:00 AM
See many of Kauai’s natural and cultural attractions on this full-day guided tour. After hotel pickup in the morning, relax in a deluxe air-conditioned coach as your local guide shares stories from Kauai’s history and provides narration on passing sites.

As you make your way toward the rocky red landscape of Waimea, pass local attractions like the historic Koloa Sugar Mill, Nawiliwili Harbor, and Queen Victoria’s profile. Stop at the Spouting Horn natural blowhole, and watch water burst through the natural lava tubes for a spectacular sight.

Drive up a scenic winding road to reach the lip of Waimea Canyon for breathtaking views of the so-called ‘Grand Canyon of the Pacific.’ Carved by the passage of water over thousands of years, the red lava rock canyon stretches an impressive 10 miles (16 km) long and 1 mile (1.6 km) wide.

See another side of Kauai on a cruise down the scenic Wailua River, considered to be sacred by native Hawaiians. Relax as your boat leisurely traverses the gentle currents and soak in the lush tropical landscape. Visit nearby attractions such as the Fern Grotto, the sacred royal Birthstone, Opaekka Falls, and Coco Palms Grove.

At the end of your full-day Kauai adventure, you are dropped off back at your hotel in the early evening.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Spouting Horn
On Kauai’s South Shore you’ll find the spectacular Spouting Horn blowhole, one of the most photographed spots on Kauai. The Poipu surf channels into a natural lava tube here and releases a huge spout of water that can reach as high as 50 feet into the air. You’ll also hear a hiss and a roar that is the basis of a Hawaiian legend.
Duration: 20 minutes
Admission Ticket Free
Stop At:
Fern Grotto
The tranquil Wailua River weaves by gorgeous waterfalls and lush, jungle landscapes along the island’s East Side. Kauai has the only navigable rivers in Hawaii, and the Wailua River is the largest. Take a leisure boat ride on the Wailua River to the famed "Fern Grotto" with Smith's motor boats. The 20-mile long river, that once wove through the settings of seven different heiau (temples), flows from the 5,148-foot Mount Waialeale in the center of the island. The Wailua River feeds two popular and accessible waterfalls: Opaekaa Falls and Wailua Falls.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Opaekaa Falls
Cascading down into a hidden pool, this 151-foot-tall, 40-foot-wide waterfall is easily one of the island's most accessible major waterfalls.
Duration: 20 minutes
Admission Ticket Free
Stop At:
Waimea Bay
See the majestic Waimea Canyon often referred to the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific", stretching 14 miles long, 1 mile wide and more than 3,600 feet deep, the Waimea Canyon Lookout provides panoramic views of crested buttes, rugged crags and deep valley gorges. The grand inland vistas go on for miles.

Full day Kauai experience

This was a full day tour but stops were spaced out nicely. Sam was a great tour guide and was a delight to listen to! I liked that we had a relaxing lunch with time for shopping on this tour and bus was comfortable. It was a smaller sized luxury bus so the tour wasn't too big. We loved seeing Waimea Canyon from all the lookout points as well as sprouting horn. The trip on the river going to Fern Grotto was a really nice way to end the trip! Having hotel pickup was a plus and I thought that we would be on the bus for a long time dropping people off on the other side of the island but an extra bus came at the end to take the people to Princeville so it wasn't a long time until we returned to our hotel since we were staying at the Marriott in Lihue.

Canyon and Wailua River

Sam gave us great insight to the island, but we were expecting more of a hike than bus tour. You spend about 10- 20 minutes at sprouting horn, the canyon, and the falls and have about an hour for the river and fern Grotto. Majority of the time is on the bus. Great tour if you need a relax day but still want to see nature spots!

great tour but not for everyone

We had a great time but this is a tour that covers a lot which means a lot of driving and little time in each stop. Our tour guide did try to make the road portion interesting most of the time and we got a brand new bus which contributed to a great experience. If you would like to see several island highlights in a day having time for a couple of pics and then jumping to the next spot, this is a great tour. If you prefer spending more time in each spot then this tour is not for you.

Just ok...

It would have been better if we had a more knowledgeable and informative tour guide/bus driver. Kevin talked a lot, but didn’t really give us genuine information. He repeated himself 4-5 times per statement. He used terms like “the experts”, “I’ve been told...”, “my knowledge is...” Many facts and details were promised, but never delivered. Or Kevin would say he wasn’t into facts and details, He gave us ‘Hawaii history in a nutshell’, ‘Kevin’s Hawai’i language lesson’ and ‘Kevin’s take on Hawaiian geology’. Each of which were a sentence long and repeated multiple times as if we were elementary students. Kevin did tell us if we wanted more information or details we could Google it, or look on Wikipedia. He did show movie clips to match various places passed and told us all the celebs he’s seen recently on Kauai and movies we should watch. He did take us to an extra stop, where he told us he goes to take naps on occasion. We sat in the bus and looked out for about 5 minutes. We looked up some of the information shared and found most if not all the “knowledge “ he shared was false! (Example: The forbidden island gets less than zero rainfall). The boat ride to see the fern grotto was nice, but it was a shame we could not go in the fern grotto. I understand why, but it was sad. Maybe a different tour guide would of given better results. Kevin was really poor at his job. Don’t get Kevin if you’re really wanting to learn anything about Kauai, the canyon, or the river/fern grotto!

This was a great day tour to get a good sampling of the island, hitting the main attractions, and learning about Kauai in general. It would be a perfect first day excursion to see the hotspots and know more where you might want to spend more time exploring later. Katz was funny and lovely, and overall the tour was a great way to spend the day!
