Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Get an early start to make the most of the fresh tropical morning, and meet your guide at the launch point near the Wailua River, Kauai’s only navigable waterway. Get outfitted with a provided kayak, paddle, and life vest, and store your belongings in a dry bag before setting off on the gentle currents.

Soak up the verdant jungle scenery and views of volcanic peaks in the distance on a 2-mile (3.2-km) paddle upriver towards the north fork. Feel transported back in time as you pass by the traditional huts of Kamokila Village and hear tales of the native Hawaiian people who once lived around and traveled the river more than 1,500 years ago.

Take a break from paddling to explore the rain forest by foot on a moderate hike to the Ulewehi Waterfall, where you’ll be rewarded with views of the majestic falls cascading 120 feet (36 meters) down a mountain cliff. Recharge with a riverside picnic lunch of fresh and healthy island fare including vegetarian options before hopping back in your kayak for the return trip to the starting point.

This excursion is not for the faint of heart or for someone with weak ankles but it was so worth it. It was an amazing experience. Gabe was a fantastic guide. Highly recommend.

Gabe and Nina were very knowledgeable and they were with us the whole time during the adventure. The 2 mile Kayak and 2mile hike and the end to Opeaka falls or Secret falls was really awesome and worth it. The lunch and beautiful pineapple 🍍 was delicious

Aloha Jamon, Thanks so much for coming out with us on our reopening day! I am so glad you enjoyed your guide, Gabe and our guide-in-training, Nina. I am happy to hear all that hard work paid off to enjoy your lunch and swim at Secret Falls (Uluwehi Falls).

Highly recommend this company. They were so nice and helpful from the moment we arrived. The guides did a great job explaining how to kayak. The trip down the river was so fun, and the hike and waterfall were just gorgeous.

Great Trip

Wonderful experience with Matt as our guide! This was my first kayak trip. It was an easy trip, but we had one guy who wasn’t able to manage the muddy and slippery hike. So, the hike was more challenging than some expected!

Aloha Carlson, We are so happy that you had a wonderful experience with Matt as your guide! Yes, the terrain changes daily based on the amount of rain we receive in the Wailua Valley. We try our best to screen guests when they check in but definitely need to be in good shape to do this trip! Thanks again for your kind review.

Very nice experience. Worth going for it. Amazing scenery when both kayaking and hiking. It could be slightly better organised at the check in stage; a second person would be very helpful in unloading and loading the kayaks.

Awesome day!

We really enjoyed this tour. Kayaking up the river was easy, then a hike up to the gorgeous but cold falls. Trail was muddy so make sure you wear water hiking shoes, like Merrell H20 Hiking shoes. You could prob do it on your own, as its well marked, but you wont learn nearly as much as if you go with someone who hikes it regularly. Our tour guide, David, was quite a character. His dog Lilo went along with us, we loved her!!

This tour may not be what you expect, The 2 mile kayak paddle each way to a landing was nothing special and then the 1-2 mile hike through the very muddy, slippery trail to the waterfall was not what I call fun as people slip and fall on the gooey, sticky MUD trail to eventually end up at a waterfall for a turkey sandwich and some pineapple only to turn around 45 min. Later to repeat the same..UGH
