Overview

Visit Jenolan Caves to explore Australia's most spectacular cave system with a small group of no more 12 people. Located in the Blue Mountains of NSW near Oberon, this challenging 2-hour journey involves climbing, squeezing and crawling into the heart of a limestone mountain like a real cave explorer. No previous caving experience is necessary for this introductory caving tour, however it requires a decent level of flexibility, strength, and agility.

Footwear - please wear non-slip athletic shoes such as sneakers/joggers or bush walking boots.
Knee pads - not essential, but if you want to bring your own, make sure they are soft and flexible.

Make your own way to Jenolan Caves, located three hours by car from Sydney Airport. Meet your guide at 1pm in the Guides Office to begin your caving experience.

Get outfitted in the gear provided, which includes overalls, helmet, and headlamp. Please come prepared with 'active wear' clothing that allows for full movement and can get dirty. Sturdy non-slip footwear is essential.

Start in the Elder Cave, which is perfect for novice cavers to get accustomed to being underground. Move on through other sections with colorful names including the Crystal Chamber, The Chapel, Armchair Squeeze, Rockpile, and Letterbox Squeeze. The S-Bend takes you out to the Imperial Cave, where you emerge from your adventure. Receive a Certificate of Achievement at the end of your tour.

  • No heart problems or other serious medical conditions
  • Not recommended for pregnant travelers
  • You must have an average level of fitness, strength, flexibility and agility.
  • You must be a minimum 10 years of age
  • When you arrive at Jenolan, we will ask you to complete an indemnity form. You must be over 17 to complete the form. Therefore, if you are under 18, a parent or guardian must come into our office before the tour, to complete the form for you.
  • You cannot bring food, chewing gum or drinks (except water) into the cave.
  • Bring essentials only, eg, a small plastic bottle of water and a small camera. You will be squeezing and crawling through small spaces, and we are not responsible if your possessions become lost or broken.
  • We usually photograph participants on the tour, and make the images available to download from the Internet, free of charge. However we do not guarantee images, and we do not photograph participants who are under 18.
  • Near public transportation
  • Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level
