Overview

Combine visits to the Glacier Skywalk and the Athabasca Glacier on a tour from the Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre. Ride in a huge ice explorer for a guided tour of the glacier and listen to engaging commentary about glaciers, the local ecosystem, and environmental changes. Then walk on the glass-bottom Skywalk for photo-worthy views over the cliff's edge.
  • Ice explorer tour to Athabasca Glacier with visit to the Glacier Skywalk
  • Narrated tour of the Columbia Icefield on a rugged ice explorer vehicle
  • Stop to walk along the glacier
  • Access to the glass-bottom Glacier Skywalk
Your tour departs from the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre; tours depart every 15 to 30 minutes, and your ticket is valid for any departure on the day you select.
Climb aboard a specialized ice explorer, an enormous, rugged vehicle built to handle the glacial terrain. As you travel through the largest icefield in the Canadian Rockies, listen to your guide's informative commentary. Pass sights such as the Weeping Wall, Crowfoot Glacier, Peyto Lake, and Bow Lake on what is widely considered one of Canada's most scenic drives.
At the Athabasca Glacier, hop out and walk along the glacier, where you can even fill up your water bottle with pure, pristine snowmelt.
On the return trip, stop at the Glacier Skywalk for refreshments and walk along the glass-bottom walkway out over the cliff's edge. Then, back to the ice explorer for the final drive back to the Discovery Center and a return to your vehicle.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre
No trip to Jasper is complete without a visit to the famed Columbia Icefield, the largest ice field in the Canadian Rockies. Jaw-dropping views of towering mountains surround a landscape of broken rocks and ice and pure white snow as far as the eye can see. The Athabasca Glacier, located in the northwest corner of Banff National Park, is one of the most imposing and dramatic parts of the massive ice sheet and is often only accessible through the help of specialized winter vehicles.   Your glacier adventure departs from the Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre along the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93 N), approximately 175 km (110 mi) from Banff, widely recognized as one of the most scenic mountain drives in the Canadian Rockies. Tours depart every 15-30 minutes and your ticket is valid at any point for the day you have selected.  From the Discovery Centre, you will board a specialized Ice Explorer, a massive vehicle with gigantic wheels designed to let you travel safely along the often frozen roadway. Along the way, your driver will provide commentary about glaciers, their impact upon the local ecosystem, and the environmental changes rapidly transforming these massive scenic wonders. Once you reach the Athabasca Glacier, you will have the opportunity to hop out and walk along the glacier. Experience the place for yourself and even fill up your water bottle with pure, pristine snowmelt. After you will return back to the Discovery Center before heading over to the Glacier Skywalk, where you will walk along the glass bottom walkway out over the cliff's edge. After stopping to appreciate the incredible view and capture a few photographs, it's back to the Discovery Center and a return to your vehicle.

Viator or should I say Violator! is not the company you should book with for this tour! I unfortunately did only to drive all the way there yesterday to find out they lied to me flat out about the time. Pursuit is the compay running the show there and they are the ones who set the tour times and said that Viator often lies to customers to get business. There was no room for my so called 11:45am tour!! The did get me in at 3:00pm only cause they were not busy and open then. BTW I did not save any money also with Viatour. Had I booked with Pursuit the price was about the same and of course they would honor my resurvation.

Two part review: 1. Experience of the activity: Really good. The tour guides, the tour and glacier bus was really exceptional. Pursuit did a exceptional job putting this tour together. I will recommend it to anyone going to Banff or Jasper. 2. Viator: As a third party reselling - they did a terrible job in selling. After selling the tour ticket, they give you vouchers to redeem at the ticket counter. After reaching at the counter, pursuit folsk could not find my booking. After searching and missing my window, they finally gave up and decided to honor the vouchers anyways. They gave me a window later in the day to go on the bus. The lady at the counter said, this isn't the first time that this has happened with Viator. Summary: Go to pursuit directly and book your tour.

The Glacer Tour was great, the Skywalk was less. The monsterbusses were huge and the drivers verry informative and funny.
