Sinchicuy Lodge Top Class!

This tour was class A from start to finish! My tour guide Alex, the lodge manager Mauro and the other worker from the local village (I didn’t get his name) were all excellently professional but warm and welcoming at the same time. They really make you feel at home! Alex was so passionate about the Amazon and did his very best to show me as much as possible, along with explaining everything in detail! I couldn’t recommend highly enough, especially with the amazing value for money.

Overrated and was kept there against my own will

, Dec 2019
I was very excited for this part of my trip to Peru with my husband. We were on our honeymoon. Unfortunately, this place and the "adventure" was nothing short of disappointing, and I was kept there against my own will. First of all, I know I am going into the jungle. I have never experienced the jungle, nonetheless sleeping in a bungalow listening to wild animal noises throughout the night. I expected to be freaked out a bit. However, what I wouldn't expect is for me to request to leave after day 2 (out of 3) and be told flat out that I can't. I asked the management why I couldn't leave, and they gave me a list of several reasons. Then, I asked them how I would they take me back to city if I had a medical emergency. Their response "well, in that case, we would take you back and figure it out." This told me immediately that this was absolutely not true and it would be possible to let me leave. I am dismayed that anyone would EVER keep anyone who PAID to be there against their own will. In addition, we walked around mostly for hours in the hot and humidity all day. I was not interested in that. I came to the Amazon to see animals, and most of the animals (maybe 99%) of them were in a zoo/farm. I legit saw a sad hedgehog staring down from his cage and was sad. If I wanted to do this, I could go to a zoo where I'm from (not fly all the way to Iquitos and suffer in the heat for this). Also, these people don't understand hospitality. I am 150% convinced I had flea bites (in addition to mosquito bites). I have a dog so I know what annoying fleas are like. I saw flea feces on my bed + had multiple bites that did not look like mosquito bites. I told the management, and instead of caring.... they argued with me and tried to tell me I was wrong. Okay, so maybe I am wrong. Who cares? Why would you argue with me and make me feel like an idiot? Overall waste of my 3 days. My husband I will never be returning.

Dear Maps51585195978, We highly regret to learn that you and your husband were disappointed with the booked lodge. For this reason we would like to go in depth with the told situation, we would appreciate if you could e-mail us your full name and the date of your staying in the lodge so with this information we can investigate your case and give a you a proper response, please reply to us to: Calidad@vipac.pe Regarding the mention of animal watching we must say that we visit animal shelters where local fauna and flora can be found, many of the animals in the shelter are in need, looked after and willing to be restored back to their natural habitat, of course fauna of the jungle is around but they may not be as social as though, in addition to this mention, one of the many activities is to sail the Amazonas River in order to observe pink dolphins, this activity may take some minutes but we aim to not invade their habitat so we wait for them to show in a natural way and not disturb them by making weird noises. Once more we apologize for the disadvantages during your stay, we look forward to hearing from you so we can elucidate this case. Also if you have any further information or comments we will highly appreciate them. Warm Regards, Quality Department Viajes Pacífico

Eye opening and unique experience!

This trip was great! It was a really great opportunity to experience a new culture. Not only do you get to meet indigenous people and visit their villages to understand their way of life, but you take a variety of excursions that give you a full experience of the Amazon. We saw and interacted with a variety of wildlife including monkeys, sloths, birds, fish, dolphins, piranha, snakes and we got to hold and interact with some of the wildlife. The accommodations were a lot better than I expected- it is very much a lodge but you have your own private bathrooms and the beds are comfortable (I slept great!). The food is also very good- the staff are so nice and accommodating. We loved our guide Gober and our bartender! Just as an FYI- there is not electricity in the rooms (except for a small light) but there are charging stations and wifi in the main lodge. They also take credit cards for alcohol and incidentals. Overall, if you are looking for a cultural adventure and experience that will open your eyes to a different way of life, this is a great trip!

Great introduction to the Amazon
ChristopherJ1642

Our guide was incredible he had such an impressive amount of knowledge about the Amazon. We learnt that he was actually born in the Amazon basin about 2 hours north of Iquitos. The lodge has great food and a friendly team. Rooms are nice considering you’re in the Amazon only single beds are offered each with individual mosquito nets. The day trips are well worth the sweat and mosquito bites (bring 40% deet mosquito spray). The animal sanctuary despite some of the other reviews is actually free for the animals to go back into the Amazon at any point in time. However as the humans feed them they tend to stay. The cages are used to quarantine new animals and separate the dangerous (anacondas) animals from their potential prey. You will have an Amazon time on this tour!

Don't waste your money here

What we thought was going to be the best part of our trip to Peru turned out to be the worst. The reviews I read were all favorable, but our experience was nothing like what was reflected in the reviews. They are under new management and that could be the reason for poor performance. Our tour guide was not very knowledgeable and very unorganized. At one point, he took us through a village to show us a cell phone tower, he also walked us around in circles for about an hour when he failed to coordinate our lunch with a sister resort. He was trying to kill time as our resort scrambled to prepare our lunch. He did not tell us anything about the area, trees, animals, insects or anything at all as we walked in circles. He also left us alone in a metal boat for about a half hour baking in the sun as he tried to figure out how to fix the lunch situation. We had to wear rubber boots everywhere we went even though it was not the rainy season and there was no mud. We walked on paved roads the majority of the time. I took my rubber boots off and replaced them with flip flops because the boots were so damn hot and unnecessary. The tour guide attempted to get me to put the boots back on but failed when I pointed out the manager of the company who was following us around taking pictures had bought some hotel slippers at a local store and was wearing them. I wore my own hiking boots after that. The "people zoo" as I dubbed it was weird and awkward. It felt like a theatrical performance that was made up on the spot. Walking through a village with a bunch of white, rich Westerners was also strange as they looked over fences into people's back yards and even tried to go into someone's house. Our tour guide rushed us to get on the boat back to mainland even though he was an hour late getting us back to the resort from fishing. We did not have enough time to shower and pack, so we didn't shower. I don't know what the rush was because he wanted to take us to main office for two hours before going to the airport. We told him to just take us to the airport. The two hours could have been better spent taking us to historical sites or art museums in Iquitos. I didn't understand the rush to get back to mainland when we still had five hours before any of our flights when we arrived at the airport. Choose another company when exploring the Amazon Jungle.

Just what I expected

When reading about this tour I got a certain picture in my head. That we were going to roughing it a bit. This is not a 5 Star Luxury Hotel in the jungle but a lodge. The lodge served us plenty of good food. The beds were OK but I did not have any trouble sleeping. You get power for a few hours at night and that is one light in your room and outlets in the main Lodge. the grounds were nice. Also our tour member were cool. we We people from Germany, Spain, Canada, France, England and the USA. But one word of caution the guides are independent. You may not get they same guides as we did.

Average tour

I really felt fortunate to visit the Amazon Rainforest. It really is such a special and wonderful place. The positives of this tour are visiting the local tribe, accommodation for stay, food and boats that are used to travel along the river. I do feel that this tour is lacking overall. I expected to see and do so much more. The only animals we saw in the wild were the pink dolphins and butterflies. We saw other animals in farm type places but it wasn't the same thing. I feel that my whole holiday was based around seeing the Amazon and it didn't match my expectations really. Upon reflection I'd recommend for people to do more research when it comes to which part of the Amazon you visit because we didn't really go deep into it at all.

Fantastic trip! Great guides and amazing activities!

We had an amazing three days in the Amazon with our guide Edgar! The tour lived up to the itinerary and was really well organised. We got to trek in the jungle, go on lots of boat trips, swim with pink dolphins, see sunset and sunrise and fish for piranhas! Food and accommodation was great! Our guide Edgar was really knowledgeable about everything, super friendly and went out of his way to make sure we did everything we wanted - even organising an extra trip to hold more sloths after seeing how much our group enjoyed it on day 2. Would totally recommend!

What a varied experience. We slushed through the jungle, saw sloths and monkeys, villages and pink dolphins. Even swam in the Amazon. Our guide, Nilton, was great. Very rustic but very fun
