Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Your Hobart sailing tour starts as you hop aboard your sleek racing yacht and set off along the River Derwent. While you witness what it takes to operate an ocean yacht like this, you can help the crew trim the sails and grind the winches, if you wish. Or just relax and admire the passing scenery, from the Hobart cityscape to views of Mt Wellington.

Head toward the Iron Pot lighthouse, and watch for wildlife like seals and dolphins. Then enjoy stories from your skipper about previous sailing adventures over morning or afternoon tea featuring gourmet Tasmanian items. Your tour ends when you return to the departure point.

When booking, select either the morning tour, which operates from October to March, or the afternoon tour from April to September.
Itinerary
Pass By:
Hobart
Sailors will see the beautiful city of Hobart, its historic docks and surrounding mountains and forests from the large sheltered harbour. Sometimes there will be other yachts racing on the harbour and sometimes we will be visited by curious dolphins and seals. Very occasionally we will see whales and orca. Sailors will experience what it is really like sailing aboard a large ocean going yacht and they can take turns on the winches or even try their hand at the wheel if they like.

Marvelous Racing Yacht Experience

Mark and his crew offered a great sailing experience, serving up some great local cheese platters along with expert knowledge of the local sites along the way. It was fun to take part with the crew in this racer yacht! Highly recommend this sail!

A wonderful day out on the water. The crew were very friendly and I had an amazing day. We are keen to head our sailing again and would recommend this crew to any considering spending an afternoon out on the water in Hobart.

Windy but fun.
Tracey_B
, Mar 2021
Was fun, however the winds were approximately 50 knots and we probably should not have been taken out in hindsight. But was still a fun experience.
icon Response from Host , Mar 2021
Thanks Tracey. Yes the winds did get to about 50 kts at one point and we would not have proceeded with a forecast that predicted those winds, but we started out at about 10 kts with a forecast of up to 20 kts (a normal day on the harbour) and ended up with about 5 kts by the time we got back to port ... hard to predict that kind of inaccurate forecasting. But in a boat like Helsal IV with our highly experienced crew it isn't a drama, in facts, as you say, it's fun : ).

We had a very relaxing and informative experience. It was like we had known the crew much longer than just meeting them. We all shared our life stories we had lived in the same area in years past and when it was finished it was like we had a trip on the river with old friends
icon Response from Host , Sep 2020
It was great sailing with you and working out all our mutual friends and relatives (we are Tasmanians after all). Looking forward to sailing with you again soon.

Thanks very much Sarah. I'l belatedly let Baz know. I don't think the lockdown was meant to include not checking on reviews but I like to be thorough : (
