Natural beauty of Finland
emilhomerin
, Aug 2019
Our guide Jeff, led us on a woodland hike around a lake. Jeff explained how the land, flora and fauna are an important part of Finnish life. We spotted mushrooms, picked and ate some blueberries, and talked about the wildlife. Jeff encouraged us to stop and observe, and answered our many and varied questions. We stopped at a campsite, where Jeff prepared a delicious lunch for us at the communal fire place. (Karelian pies with egg butter - yum! Cheese sausages, and veggies cooked over the open fire. Cookies and coffee made over the fire.) We sat and talked with a young Finnish couple, and shared our mustard, ketchup in exchange for chocolates. The forest was quiet, the air was fresh, and sunlight was beautiful. It was the perfect day trip to contrast with life in busy Helsinki. It was an easy hike on level terrain, that is good for both adults, and families.
