Itinerary
Stop At:
Lake Chapala
We begin our tour to Chapala starting with the visit to the old station of the French facade train whose construction was completed around 1920. To continue with the beautiful boardwalk, we walk and admire the view of the largest lake from Mexico. By December 1955, Lake Chapala was in one of its worst droughts, that is why it is decided to take the virgin of Zapopan and make a pilgrimage looking for the miracle of the rain, as a result of this event in June 1956, it rained so much in the storm that it recovered and thanks to this miracle a thank-you mass is celebrated every year on the 1st of July.

My guide Berenice was amazing! She’s the kind of person who has a natural passion about history and storytelling and was able to talk about not only Chapala and Ajijic, but pre-contact cosmology, linguistics, architecture, food production, the Porfiriato and more. Lago de Chapala is extremely serene (I visited on a weekday), with picturesque fishing boats, beautiful boardwalks with palm trees, and lots of pelicans. Best to wear really comfortable shoes because of the cobblestone streets, especially in Ajijic. Definitely take this tour!

I enjoyed walking around Ajijic. The guide was helpful. But I enjoy the wandering around by myself. I would recommend the tour.

I attended this tour in July 2020, and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it! My guide, Bernice, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and a good photographer :-) The two towns are both charming and beautiful. The driver was wonderful as well. He kept the van clean and was very consistent about providing hand sanitizer as I entered the van.

Great tour, and beautiful scenery. My guide, Alejandro was great. The pacing of the tour was just right. The restaurant by the lake was lackluster though--you're really just paying for the view, and the food was not great. Other than that, highly recommended tour.

Berenice was a wonderful guide and the bus was comfortable. The Malecon at Chapala was fun and I enjoyed lunch at The Peacock restaurant in Ajijic. Two peacocks strut around a peaceful, shaded garden with good food and drinks.

We really enjoyed our experience and thought the services from the tour guides were professional and courteous. It was a nice half day experience so we weren't too exhausted afterwards. Lake Chapala is really a pretty area and the guide showed us a couple other places along the way mentioning history or famous people. It was a pleasurable day and only 3 of us on the tour.
