Return Details

Returns to original departure point
After pickup in Glasgow or outside Edinburgh, depending on option selected when booking, your Outlander day tour starts with the drive to your first stop, Doune Castle, used for the Mackenzie home Castle Leoch. Additionally, this castle has been used for Winterfell scenes in Game of Thrones.

Continue to Falkland, the scene of Inverness, where you just might expect Caitriona Balfe and Tobias Menzies to walk down the street in their 1940s apparel, followed by a visit to Midhope Castle, used for Lallybroch. This location is a private estate, so access cannot be guaranteed on every tour; if you aren't able to see Midhope Castle, you'll visit Hopetoun House instead. Finally, head to Blackness Castle, used as the site of Fort William and some Wentworth scenes.

Throughout your tour, enjoy the scenery of the Scottish countryside and learn a bit about the region's history and culture. Hear a couple of Gaelic sayings, and enjoy the chance to sample a wee dram of Scotch whisky, if you wish. You'll feel just like Claire and Jamie as you're immersed in the world of Outlander, and if you're lucky, you may even have a guide who was an extra on the show, providing insight into the filming, the cast, and the crew.

Your tour ends with return to the train station for Edinburgh passengers, followed by return to Glasgow for the final drop-off.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Midhope Castle
Midhope Castle is one of the most iconic locations for any Outlander fan since it featured as Lallybroch in the TV show. We organise a "walk down" to the castle to allow you the opportunity to take in all the beautiful surroundings and other Outlander sites of interest. Please note that since Midhope Castle sits on a private working estate, and as such there may be times where access is denied out with our control and this is usually down to health and safety concerns if any dangerous activities are taking place on the estate. For respect to the local residents who reside next door the castle, the estate has denied access to the property between the months of December and April 2019. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused but the tours will carry on as planned and we will still visit the other wonderful locations.

Stop At:
Falkland Community Hall
We visit the picturesque village of Falkland which featured as Inverness in the filming of Outlander. We tend to have lunch whilst here and take the opportunity to explore the Village Square and quaint shops dotted around. We do not visit Falkland Palace while here however, during our lunch break, those who wish to visit it, can do so and meet back up with the group afterwards. We do not visit Falkland in the Winter months due to winter opening hours at some of the other properties we visit and shorter daylight hours. We substitute Linlithgow Palace in its place.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At:
Doune Castle
Doune Castle featured as Castle Leoch which was the macKenzie Castle in Outlander, home to Collum and Dougal. We visit inside the castle where your guide will give you a brief history demonstration before allowing you to explore the castle on your own using the audio guides (included in your entrance ticket to the castle).
Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At:
Royal Burgh of Culross
Culross was used for 3 seasons so far of Outlander and is rumered again for filming Season 5. It is most famous as being the location for Crainesmuir where Geillis Duncan lived. This is the last stop on our itinerary and we spend it walking through the old 17th century street towards the Mercat Cross and a quick visit to the Townhouse where you will receive a quick talk on Culross's past as well as having the chance to delight in the beautiful imagery by resident photograher Graham Harris Graham.

The very BEST!

Catriona Stevenson knows more about OUTLANDER locations, characters, and actors than ANYONE. She created this tour and conducted it superbly. What a treat for us.

Great tour! Helmut our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and so nice, we felt like he was a friend. We asked a million questions and he was happy to answer all of them. He went out of his way to pick my son up at another location. I would highly recommend this tour. The sights were amazing. Even if your not a outlander fan, the castles are truly amazing! Please note, I was informed by trip advisor that this tour included entrance into the castles. IT DOES NOT! Therefore it can get very expensive.

Last minute problems

We ended up not going on the tour. A day before we were contacted about which sites we would see. Unfortunately they changed most of the ones listed to ones we were not interested in. The whole reason we chose this particular tour was the exact places we would see. As we were traveling, we could not respond until the evening and we called to cancel. We even called to cancel in the early morning before the tour. The tour operator did not get any of the messages and called us at the time the tour was to begin. She gets 5-stars for her gracious handling of the situation. We are waiting to see if they issue us a refund.

Day trip to see the sites of Outlander

The trip was well done - we saw all of the sites we could have hoped to see on the tour. Our tour guide Jonny was knowledgeable and shared information about Outlander and Scotland in general making the tour appealing to Outlander and non-Outlander fans alike. I would have given this 5 stars however the bus was uncomfortable (we had a warm day) and there was no air-conditioning or ventilation (the driver Sergio did open his window and Jonny opened the roof vent but it really didn't help.

We saw a lot of film locations over the course of the day, but the tour was just the right length and we were back in the city before sundown.

Beautiful Outlander Day

I went with a friend who wasn’t really into the show. She loved it advice much as I did. Struan was a great tour guide. The day was most pleasant from Blackness Castle to Culross. There was ample time to see the sights, shop, enjoy the tearoom. We capped the end of this day with dinner at Greyfriars Bobby!

Major Disappointment!!!

Got to the pick up point 30 minutes early. We waited for 2 hours and the Tour Bus never showed up. After calling, Slainte Scotland Tours they said they canceled the tour due to a mechanical problem. No phone call telling us they canceled the Tour. Just a disappointing waste of time! We are waiting on a refund!
