Chaos in the Channel
Wendy_H
, Apr 2021
The bio luminescent bay was amazing. However, the kayaking and organization of the tour operator wasn’t great. We encountered many other kayakers going the opposite direction through a narrow channel in the dark without any warning. It was very chaotic and boats were hitting each other. The bay was super interesting but we only received a little information and then we sat in the bay for a while with no additional interaction or direction from the guides. We weren’t sure if they were just waiting long enough to have the tour be a certain length of time.

Kayaking through the mangroves

The kayaking to the lagoon itself was fun. It was cool going through the mangroves. The luminescence itself was a little bit of a let down.

Although kayaking was a little difficult because of the amount of trees, I would definitely do this again. The views were breathtaking and the experience in all was amazing. Would highly recommend to others.

Not worth the trouble

I would not recommend going at night.. yes you can see the green water then but it is too dark to see when you are kayaking next to branches and other kayaks. We had a group of 11 and the tour guide could not handle giving clear directions to help us know what to do

Guide was too fast; hit by a branch and knocked off my kayak, way more wet than they informed us. The guide rushed through the tour and barely waited for others in our group

Yes, you will get wet in a kayaking activity. Is especially important to pay attention to the instructions in this Night Kayaking. This tour is not for everybody, just like outdoor recreation is not from everybody. We go as fast as the slowest kayak. We have a guide leading the group, another guide in the middle of the group and a backup guide making sure no one left behind. We also have runners going back and forth inside the lead guide and the backup guide perimeter (do not try to follow them, follow the lead guide).

Beautiful experience, too bad it was ruined by unfulfilled promises!

Beautiful experience, Professional instructors But quite disappointed because they took photos and told us they would send them to us, but I haven’t heard back from them even after several texts! They should not have promised!

No fault of the tours but the bio bay Is an excursion to skip. Hardly glows. I know it’s supposed to be a once in a lifetime must but it’s nothing like the pictures. It’s a bay full of other kayakers and everyone has tarps on them hoping to see some life changing glow. Save your money and time. My life hasn’t changed.

Amazing experience

The dinoflagellates were a unique and spectacular thing to see! One of the only places in the world where you can see this natural beauty. When you couldn’t see them it was still amazing to kayak in the dark through the mangroves.

Kayaking in Laguna Grande

This tour was a great experience. If you have only done kayaking in the day, add kayaking at night to your bucket list. The bio bay was not as luminescent as we thought, but that was due to the moon light. The tarp we were provided by Pepe and Indio helped us experience it better.
