Excellent tour

The guide was very friendly and informative. Alnwick Castle was amazing even though it was a rainy day. Lindisfarne is a nice little village with a historic castle and priory, worth viewing. I Recommend this tour when visiting Edinburgh. Visitors would benefit from a longer stay at Alnwick.

Alnwick Castle

Alnwick was a little disappointing. The monestary was the most interesting part. Not a lot to share about it.

Lovely day trip

Had a lovely day trip! Alnwick Castle was so much fun and I loved the archeological objects on display. There was a sword from the Hellenistic period which I thought very cool. The fish and chips were delicious. Our guide George was great and super knowledge able. Would go again!

Amazing Day Trip
Karen_V
, Aug 2019
Our tour guide shared so much history, ins & outs of getting around the areas we visited and more on our day trip to the Coast. It was great to leave the “research” up to the guide and listen to him tell us about the coast and it’s history. Would definitely book w Viator again.

Rainy day visit

Unfortunately our trip was marred by persistent rain which did dampen the spirits. However I would still recommend Alnwick castle- state rooms in particular! Would have liked to learn more about Viking influence in Scottish history.

Great day!

Very enjoyable day tour in a small comfortable bus with a small group of people. Angela was an excellent tour guide. She is very knowledgeable and friendly and I enjoyed how she played various folk songs that had relevance to the region and its history. We did the tour as planned but she took into consideration all of our interests and expectations and tailored the tour accordingly.

Lively day out with stories and songs
Miriam_R
, Jun 2019
If you can, ask for Angela! This was a terrific day of stories, songs and beautiful countryside.  Angela is a warm and joyful guide to the border region and its bloody history, and her road trip soundtrack is on point. She makes even bathroom stops into special moments. The 'viking' reference in the tour's title is slightly misleading as the histories covered here were post-Viking era. Lindisfarne is lovely - the free mead tastings are a highlight, and I'm usually a non-drinker! You need to time your activities at Alnwick Castle - they have a daily program. That bit is probably more appealing to the kids than the adults, although the historical talks are interesting.

This was my favorite activity in my 5 days in Edinburgh. We had plenty of time to explore Lindinsfarne( 1 hour) and Alnwick Castle and Gardens(3 hours). The castle is great and the gardens are spectacular. Would definately recommend. Our driver Alan kept us entertained and was great

Our tour guide Andy made this trip...

Our tour guide Andy made this trip the best! He was funny, super knowledgeable and clearly loves his job. He made great recommendations and customized the tour so we could maximize our time. Holy Island is a cool place to see and Annick Castle was great too. The tour size was limited to 16, that was fantastic, you didnt feel like a face in the crowd it was a more personal experience. Thanks Andy! Signed Team Canada

This tour was a lot of fun! Graham, our tour guide made it interesting, especially when we went to Holy Island and had to beat the tide. Great tale of his first trip there! The castle was wonderful and huge. Loved the Tree House! All in all a great day.

We had a MAJOR communication issue...
Stephanie U
, May 2018
We had a MAJOR communication issue with this company and were not informed of a time conflict with this tour. We were in port from a cruise ship and had inquired upon booking whether the timing would be a conflict for our ship all-aboard time. Many attempts to call the company during business hours resulted in no answer. We never discovered we couldn't tale this tour until we were sitting on the tour bus, ready to go. It was quite heartbreaking and the unprofessional manner in which the staff handled the situation compounded the heartbreak. I would not recommend working with this company, as both the office staff and the tour guide were both quite unprofessional

This tour was terrible - I have...
Chantal_G
, Sep 2017
This tour was terrible - I have worked in UK tourism for nearly 10 years and this tour was the single largest disappointment and waste of money I've ever experienced. Our guide Brian was little more than a driver. I knew entrance fees weren't included on this tour but I did expect a guide or at least commentary while we drove to the sights. Instead, Brian arrived late, didn't even take the time to give us his name I was able to catch a glimpse of his nametag. He didn't give any description or discussion on the tour aside for the times we would need to return to the bus. He was icily silent which, especially with a small group of people, was felt and made us feel like we couldn't or shouldn't be speaking either. Instead I would have gladly joined a 50 tour to these sights for a similar rate and get a guide who knew anything about the sights we were visiting. Save your money and do not book with Heart of Scotland Tours.

Loved the guide! Beautiful views, picturesque, Alnwick was gorgeous! Castle on Holy Island was being worked on, so covered and didn't get to see it.
