Pile Square, in front of the fountain by 'Dubravka' restaurant & bar (just outside the Pile Gate, the western entrance to the Old town) A guide in Elite Travel blue T-shirt will be holding a 'Walking Tour' sign.

This activity will end right where it started.
Meet your guide in the morning and be prepared to get dazzled with impressive historical anecdotes and facts of Dubrovnik’s history. Begin at Pile Gate, one of three ways into the Stari Grad, or Old Town, and then stop at Onofrio’s Fountain, a multi-faucet drinking fountain connected to an aqueduct that has, for centuries, carried drinking water into the city.  Then walk a few seconds more and you are at the Franciscan Monastery, home to one of the oldest still-functioning pharmacies in Europe. Wander around the 14th-century Gothic cloister and take in some of the art.

Stroll down the Stradun, the limestone-covered main pedestrian street of Dubrovnik and stop at the Renaissance-era palace, which houses the state archives. Right around you, see Orlando Column, the clock tower, which curiously shows the time in Arabic and Latin numerals and only changes every five minutes, the Rector’s Palace and the Church of St. Blaise, the patron saint of Dubrovnik. Across the square, walk a few minutes and visit the Cathedral of the Assumption, a beautiful Baroque sanctuary

Fantastic round tour in the old town of Dubrovnik 🏰

Our round tour in the old town of Dubrovnik was amazing. Elvis, our tour guide did a fantastic job showing us the historic sights and giving us many interessant facts about the history of Dubrovnik. It was both educational and also entertaining — due to Elvis’ great sense of humor. Thank to this great tour we’re having a better understanding and even more appreciation for the city. We love it and could recommend it to anyone visiting Dubrovnik for the first time. 😊

Our group‘s guide, Elvis, did a fantastic job showing us „his“ city. He is an excellent story teller and therefore, didn‘t just give us interesting facts but also let us really dive into the city‘s past and present. I would definitely recommend this tour, especially if you get Elvis as your guide!

Our guide was so experienced and knowledgeable and friendly. We felt like we learned more in two hours than we could from a tour book. Also we were in a small group which was great for us. A wonderful experience.

Best Introduction to Dubrovnik (and Croatia) - Must Do!

Elvis provides an incredible walking tour on the history of Dubrovnik from its founding to present day. I found him to be incredibly knowledgable, very engaging, and refreshingly candid. His storytelling is riveting. Dubrovnik was our first stop on our trip through Croatia, and the historical context provided gave me such a better understanding of history, including the rivalry and influence of the Venetian republic, which would come up throughout our time in Croatia in areas far beyond Dubrovnik. I was particularly struck by the ways in which the republic of Dubrovnik was very progressive, even as early as the 1400s. I would suspect that many visitors have little understanding of the conflict in this region and how the present borders were formed. Elvis helped me realize how little we talk abut how some parts of Europe were divided and settled after World War II (especially the Balkans). I was challenged to consider some of the realities of being a country that was only able to recently obtain its independence. Elvis has a living memory of the Homeland War in the early 1990s, and it was interesting to hear first-hand knowledge about life in the former Yugoslavia and the change to independent nation. I cannot recommend this tour enough to gain a better understanding of Dubrovnik beyond the city walls. Elvis is an incredible guide with so much knowledge to offer.

Interesting background on a fascinating city
Christine_J

Karalina was attentive to the five of us on this tour. Her personal recollections of the Homeland War were chilling, especially as we are the same age so her stories of evacuation from her home to live in the safety of a hotel, family being injured, playing for hot shrapnel as the bombs dropped were in stark contrast to my childhood in the UK where I saw the bbc news reports. I applaud her for her in depth knowledge and neutrality over the warring factions, her explanations were factual and concise. We didn’t walk much, I was hoping for more exploring of the narrow side streets, but the content of ancient and modern history gave really fascinating context to the tumultuous history of the city. Following this tour we went onto the city walls and I was pleased to have learnt from her as we could see the evidence of the bombings more clearly, along with the older architectural narrative of the city. Given this is real factual history of Dubrovnik I would take this over an HBO tour any day. The small group was a great size. Would definitely recommend for anyone interested in understanding the history of Dubrovnik.
