Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Enjoy a broad and pleasant overview of Cozumel island on this private shore excursion. After pickup from the cruise-ship or ferry pier at a time of your choosing, your personalized guide takes your group (up to nine people) by air-conditioned van to a variety of sights on Cozumel, which translates in Mayan as the ‘Island of Swallows.’

Hear the history behind the landmarks downtown on a city tour. Then, stop at a chocolate factory to learn about how the Maya people made and used chocolate. Follow your chocolate lesson with a tasty tequila tasting and a visit to Pueblo del Maiz to learn how to make corn tortillas.

Next, opt to explore the San Gervasio Maya (entry at your own expense) ruins. Continue along the coastal highway, stopping for photo ops as you like. This stretch of the tour is a good time to purchase lunch at one of the beachfront restaurants, and your guide has recommendations on hand.

Finish your outing at the beach of Palancar, where you can swim, snorkel, or just relax in a hammock under the coconut palm trees. Your shore excursion ends with return transport to the pier.

Gerry did a great job showing us around the island. Since we were solo he allowed us to set the pace and destinations. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and history, and seemed well connected to the community. Would highly recommend.

A Private Cab Tour of Cozumel with Gerry
stephenholmes
, Jan 2020
My wife & I really enjoyed our 5 hour Private Tour of Cozumel. Our Driver & Tour Guide was Gerry (Geraldo) who met us at the International Dock. Gerry drove a very clean, 4-door Cab. I'm 6'2" but the Cab had plenty of leg room. My wife uses a Lightweight Transfer-type wheel chair which we brought and Gerry was very attentive in loading and unloading the wheel chair and insuring that all of the places that we visited were wheelchair accessible. Gerry drove us all around the Island pointing out all of the significant landmarks. He spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable of Cozumel and its history. We visited a small family run Chocolate Factory and got to sample over 25 different chocolates that they made. It was a marvelous tour lasting over 45 minutes. Next we stopped at the Mayan Village in which there were over 12 actors in colorful Mayan costumes who reenacted what life might have been like in the days of the Mayans. We were guided through the Village by Belam (The Jaguar) and each of the actors worked extremely hard to entertain and educate us. Next Gerry took us to a Tequila Tasting Tour and we got to sample 6 different grades of Tequila as well as a delicious Margarita. We didn't buy any of their Tequila and the Guide was very understanding and did not pressure us to do so. Finally, Gerry drove us along the Wild East side of the Island and we stopped at a beautiful natural formation of a Coral Bridge. The day flew by and both my wife and I really enjoyed the tour with Geraldo. He is the BEST!

Gerry was our driver/tour guide. He was great. Love having the locals as guides. Asked if we were buying anything specific. We said yes and he took us to a place that had the best price. He said it was our tour and if we wanted to spend more time at one place than another he would accommodate us and he did. Loved the chocolate and tequila tours! Also told him wanted to get drinks and appetizers at a place on the water and he took us to Coconuts. Great place! Would recommend this tour!

Very disappointing trip

We were quite disappointed! I read so many great reviews and expected to have a well informed guide who enjoyed sharing their knowledge. We had Antonio who, despite my attempts to customize our tour (as described in advertisement) took us to places he chose. He told us the ruins were small and never allowed us to decide if we wanted to go, he just drove past it and took us to Trquila Tasting.....seems like a set up between Antonio and the store. We wanted to go to Coconuts and he insisted on taking us to a different restaurant/beachclub. When we told him we wanted to leave that place and go to Coconuts, he insisted that we have his friends play music for us tableside. Of course this ended up with us feeling we had to tip them. He took us to Coconuts and when we finished eating we could not find him anywhere! Multiple people searched and he finally showed up 15 minutes later. Next, he took us to Choc Factory tour , which was the biggest ripoff of the day! We spent $30 for a very quick and uninspiring tour. That was it! We spent over $300 for a day of being used to aaaist Antonio in some type of kickback?? Never again!

Great tour

Very nice 5 hour tour of Cozumel. Lots of good history info, reasonably priced souvenir shopping, tequila tasting, real mexican tortillas, and relaxing on the beach with margaritas Antonio was very nice to our family. Our only hiccup was the meeting location. Insist they meet you at your cruise pier (there are many) so you do not have to walk or take a taxi to meet your driver

Day trip in Cozumel

Our tour guide, Jerry, was wonderful. He met us at the cruise terminal and started off with a shirt city tour. Next up was a chocolate tour. Learned about chocolate and did a tasting. Next was a Myan ruin tour. Our tour guide at the ruins have us the history. Then on to a tequila tasting and to learn about the process of making it. This was awesome. I am not a big tequila drinker and I loved this. Since we had an overcast day we just stopped by the each for some pictures. Jerry recommended a restaurant for dinner that was walking distance to the cruise terminal. What a wonderful experience we all had.

Good driver!

Gerry, our driver, has lived on the Isla d of Cozumel for decades & had much knowledge about it. We chose the Isla d tour as the day was overcast and not beach weather. We visited a family owned chocolate making business, a family owned tequila business, tasting at both. Then we got a private guide at San Gervais Mayan ruins, where the guide was quite good, but beware of mosquitos at this place.

No Yellow Hat
Gene P
, Oct 2019
When we first got off our ship we had instructions to go to front of cab and find driver wearing yellow hat. We looked all over and finally found our driver sitting talking to his buddies without yellow hat. Not a good start. We did the tours of tequila and chocolate factory which was just Ok. Then went to ruins and it was pouring so we didn't want to pay 20 to dodge rain not drivers fault. I call him a driver because he was not very informative of culture and island but a nice guy.. Then he took us for lunch on other side of island which was not very good and again overpriced. If your guide takes you to Punta Morena request another stop It would be nice if the driver would have had some cold water or a beer or to. I know the tour said no drinks but it would be a nice touch and one I would do if working for tips. All in all in my opinion I would skip this tour from whatever tour company and go to the beach and have a cold beer or pina coloda.
