This is a convertible trip, not dune buggy

The buggy was a Nissan, an open vehicle like a convertible, not an off road vehicle. If you rent a car or jeep and drive to punta sur you can take yourself on the trip. However, Miguel was kind and attentive, took us snorkeling at a beach club we would have never visited, and took us to fun little restaurants and juice stands we would not have found. One of them served the best coconut and guacamole ever. He gave my son his fins when he forgot them at the dive shop, which was nice.

Not a great excursion experience

Meeting location was easy to find, but once we got there, it was chaos. Luckily I had printed all of the documents and e-mails, because I had to convince them of what excursion I had booked, and that I had paid for it in advance. The guy in charge eventually paired us with a guide named Chrispin (nice older gentleman but spoke limited English in a very heavy accent).
We had to walk about a half mile to get to the car. Yes, I said car. the "Dune Buggy" was a rental that was actually a pink Nissan Kicks with no roof. It had about 100,000 miles on it, but was in good shape for a rental in mexico. At the car he broke out some brochures to determine where we wanted to go. We initially told him that we we'rent interested in buying tequila, but he pretty much insisted that we needed to do that part of the tour. (I think they get kickbacks for bringing tourists there to buy $150 bottles of tequila). Because this was a rental, we had to go and get the cooler of beer and water at their office before heading out to the Tequila tour place. Not the best part of Cozumel.
Admittedly the tequila samples were good, but we interacted with so many different people there that the tipping started to get out of hand. They also take a picture of you with a sombrero on and then want to get paid for it. About $30 in tips and pictures before we left.
We drove out to the North side of the island and made a few stops along the ocean drive that were pretty although not really accessible. You could go knee deep in the waves, but any further and our guide was sure we'd get swept out to sea. I had some cheap Mexican beer along the way. Apparently they don't have laws against drinking and driving there. Ended up at Punta Sur where we saw the lighthouse, a marsh area, and a small mayan ruin. Chrispin told stories along the way, but we couldn't understand half of what he said.
Eventually ended up at a small beach and outdoor restaurant where we only had about an hour and a half left of our tour. A little confusion about what was included, eventually determining that we could each order one plate of food, but drinks and condiments were extra. $3 for a DP, $5 for a Corona, and $8 for Guacamole, and another $7 for a tip to the waiter. The food was good, but not memorable. The water there was nice, but not as clear as Roatan or Costa Maya. I'd compare it to the Bahamas They offered snorkel equipment, but it's not like we were on a reef, so I just swam with my goggles for a little while before drying out in the sun.
Around 2pm we headed back because it was going to take at least 45 minutes. I drove while my wife and Chrispin took a nap.
When we got back to Port, Chrispin called his boss and handed me the phone. The boss asked me how I liked the tour and how Chrispin did. Not the best way to get a review, because I'm not going to say something negative about the man while he's sitting next to me.
Unfortunately for Chrispin, this was my very 1st excursion experiences, so I wasn't prepared for how much tipping there would be. I only had $7 left, so that's all he got. If he hadn't pushed the Tequila tour, I'd have had more to give him.
All in all, I would not recommend this tour to anyone. There are better tours out there.

Hi Bill,
This is John, and I can not tell you how sorry we are. We would like to return 20% for the inconvenience. I normally manage our tours but my wife was in the hospital due to a rare blood disease. She also handles our reservations and things were a little hectic in absence. I’m truly sorry for the issues

All-Inclusive Private Dune Buggy Tour

This was the most unorganized tour I have ever been on. Do not book with this company. I got an email 2 days before we got on our cruise that the excursion was cancelled by the company. I rebooked the tour and found that I was scheduled again with the same company for $90 more than original. We were on a ship and at that point had to rely on trying to find wi-fi at port and was able to get an email the morning of the excursion saying to show up at 9 am. We get there and the tour person said our excursion was cancelled and another person said we were not to be there until 10:30am. They eventually fixed it and got us a guide to take us in the dune buggies which were not at all dune buggies that you would imagine. The were more like modified compact convertibles without doors. The seat belts did not work and we had to sit four to each car which was disappointing to many of us who did not get to drive. We went tequila tasting and after that went to an area behind the tequila tour which was wooded and a man dressed as a native Mayan blew a shell in our face while we held hands in a circle with our eyes closed. It was bizarre!!!! The only saving grace of the entire trip was the beautiful beach area we stopped at for 15 minutes-the water was so clear and beautiful. Looking back we should have asked to stay there but we were hungry and drove on to lunch. Lunch was a disappointment as the food took forever to arrive and by then we were behind schedule and did not feel we had enough time to snorkel.

To begin with, we had a little trouble finding out where we meet up for this excursion but we were able to find each other! We had 6 members in our group (family) and Jorge was our guide. He was excellent and very informative!! The dune buggy's were really fun and we all fell in love with Cozumel thanks to Jorge!! The lunch was ok and plentiful.

Best Private Dune Buggy Tour

This is the best way to tour Cozumel. There was only my wife, myself, and our tour guide Gabriel. He was extremely knowledgeable about the island as he was born and raised there and his family still lives there locally. He has an excellent background in education which lent to his detailed explanations historically and ecologically at all the places we stopped and visited. Gabriel was also very attentive in customizing our tour to our desires. As an example, my wife studies crocodiles and alligators so he allocated more time in Punta Sur Ecological Park to watch and photograph them. We were so impressed with this particular company and tour we have decided to do an all inclusive vacation just on Cozumel instead of one day from a cruise ship. Thank you Gabriel for making our time on Cozumel the highlight of our vacation.
