Incredible experience, exceeded our expectations!
, Oct 2021
Ismael and Genesis were fantastic! The directions to get to the meeting place were spot on. Unfortunately, our cruise ship was about an hour late arriving and we were very concerned about missing the tour. However, there was no need to worry as we saw Genesis, our driver, holding up a sign with our name on it as soon as we got near the meeting location. Our guide, Ismael, provided us with an overview of what we would see during the tour and confirmed what time we needed to be back on the ship. Then, we were on our way! There were only 2 couples in our group so it felt like we had the luxury of a private tour. Our van was comfortable and we welcomed the very efficient air conditioning! Ismael lives near the ruins of Chacchoben so he was able to show us his colorful village and even meet his beautiful family. We saw the local school, sports field and cemetery. He provided us with insight and a degree of personal interaction that you just can't get when you're on one of the "big bus" tours. Once we arrived at the Chacchoben ruin site, he really made tour interesting by explaining how the Maya used plants for medicine, how they chose the location to build their temples as well as many aspects of their day to day lives and social hierarchy. We also made a quick stop at a local produce stand where Ismael had arranged a wonderful surprise for us! We were given some samples of fresh, local produce such as papaya, pineapple, dragon fruit, cucumber and mango. Delicious! It's clear how much passion Ismael has for the history of this region. We're glad we selected this tour and feel it was a great value.
Excellent Customer Service

We had conflicts beyond our control and Costa Maya Tours was excellent to work with as we worked through our problems. Their customer service was fantastic. The next time we are in Costa Maya we will absolutely be using them again. They were a pleasure to work with.
Exciting and informative!

Our tour guide was incredibly informative and kind! We had a great time, and he even took us to the 7 colors lagoon after spending so much time in the heat! Watch out for mosquitoes of course. They’re persistent :/
Great Experience in Costa Maya
, Sep 2021
Met our tour person Ismael. Good directions to meeting place. Van very clean, Ismael very informative and congenial. He taught us so many things we did not know about the ruins and the area. Will ask for him when we return to Costa Maya. Thank you Ismael and Viator!
The best experience
, Sep 2021
It started off with us trying to find the place because you have to leave the terminal (if you took a cruise) but the direction led us right there. Our tour guide’s name was Ishmael, he was absolutely fantastic. Did more than enough, I won’t spoil any surprises but trust me: GO THROUGH THEM, and not the ship or other travel places. He knows Chacchoben more than anyone because he himself is a Chacchoben. i’m sure the other guides from there are good as well but if you’re lucky enough to get Ishmael then you’re in for a great time. 10/10 would recommend again.

Tremendous Experience
, Mar 2020
Our guide, Cruz, was wonderful. He asked us what we wanted to know as to cater his presentation to us and our wants. He was very informative and easy-going. It was a small tour so it was more personalized versus a big tour group which you get a stock tour. Not only do I recommend them for others, I would go back again and ask for different information.
Best excursion in Costa Maya!!
, Mar 2020
This was such a great tour!! The bonus, was we were the only group on the tour so we basically got a private tour with our guides! They were very knowledgeable about the area and were able to give us some great information about the area and the ruins. They spoke to us about everything they knew and really gave us some great information. The ruins were very nice and lots of shade. The trees were gorgeous and the ruins were just remarkable. You didn't even have to walk to far to get up to see the other 2. You had the option of 32 steps or 12, so I went with the 12 while my teens went with the 32. Either way you got to the top and were able to see the other 2 ruins and it was just breathtaking. Stopping for pineapple was the tip of the iceberg!! Just so good!! I would definitely recommend this trip for everyone!!

Perfect Excursion outside of a beach day!
, Mar 2020
Absolutely loved this excursion! This was our last port day on our cruise and we wanted to do something a little different than a traditional beach day so we chose to visit the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins which was an amazing place to visot! Our tour guide Cruze was very knowledgeable, hands on and did his best to personalize the experience to each person/family. I would highly recommend this excursion if you’re visiting Costa Maya!

Very Informative
, Mar 2020
Our tour guide was amazing. He was very informative and had extensive knowledge of the Mayan Ruins we visited. They provided colds drinks for us and even stopped for fresh pineapple for each of three groups in the tour.
Great Half Day Tour
, Mar 2020
Did not get off to a good start as the confirmation email said the excursion was to depart at 9:00 local time which was in fact 8:00 Ship time. Our ship did not disembark until 8:30, 9:30 local time, so we rushed to the office hoping we did not miss the excursion. We got there, checked in with no issues with no one saying a word about us being late. We figured it was just a mix up between the local and ship time and all was good. We were offered a bottle of water and asked to sit outside and wait. After about 10 mins our tour guide Cruz came up to us and asked us if we knew that we were really early and that the excursion is not due to depart until 11? We were shocked and showed him our confirmation letter and he did not know what to say. He apologized profusely and said that if every else on the tour showed up early we would could leave early. Long story short, everyone else showed up within half an hour so thank goodness we left by 9:45 ship time. The guide himself, Cruz, was very good. Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the region, the ruins and the Mayan civilization. He provided a very customized tour and catered to our groups interests. The ruins themselves were fascinating. Not an extensive and varied amount by any means but we knew that going in and choose the site as we did not want a long trip to get to some of the other ruins in the area. Over all I would highly recommend this excursion if you are looking for a half day adventure. Only disappointment was not seeing any monkeys.
