Depending on the day, set out in the morning or afternoon along the Loop central business district, home to many of the city’s iconic structures. Expect to cover a half mile (0.8 km) during an easy stroll with plenty of stops.

Slip inside the Marshall Field and Company Building for a glimpse of the Tiffany & Co–designed ceiling decorating the atrium. Pass by the contemporary shopping and dining complex of Block 37 on State Street, and see the untitled 50-foot-tall (15-meter) Picasso sculpture at Daley Plaza.

Along the way, learn about the Windy City’s art history and architectural design via shared iPads that showcase archival images of Chicago with maps, historic photos, and documentary video clips. You’ll also maneuver through the Chicago Pedway System — a network of climate-controlled underground concourses, passages and sky-bridges that connects buildings throughout downtown.

Your tour concludes at the Chicago Cultural Center, a Chicago Landmark building completed in 1897 and originally the city’s first central public library. Peer up at the marvelous stained glass dome before making your way to your next destination.

Best introduction to Chicago

For me the first hours in Chicago, this was a great way of introduction and really opening my eyes for what I need to be looking for when walking the streets, passing through buildings. Very knowledgeable about the art, architecture and history.

wanting more

I was expecting more walking and maybe more modern building archecture, perhaps less historical and art. The pedway wasn't anything to write home about.
icon Response from Host , Mar 2020
We are disappointed to hear our tour did not meet your expectations. The descriptions and photos do indicate the types of buildings and places that are visited, and it's pretty rare that people request less history or less art on the tour. The walking distance and duration are also explained in the description, and the tour is designed to be a comfortable pace for people of all ages and with different levels of mobility. This tour is routinely rated five stars by our visitors who say they learned a lot, appreciated the pace, and enjoyed the mix of buildings visited (and quite a few join the tour specifically to be introduced to the Pedway), so this review was a bit surprising. We know not every tour is going to be right for everyone's interests though. We're sorry to hear that this tour was not exactly what you were looking for.

Interesting information about some of Chicago’s historic bldgs. Our guide, Ellen, was very knowledgeable and answered our many questions. Though not for everyone, if you do like skyscraper architecture you’ll find this tour worthwhile.

Although informative, I wish the tour focused more on the Pedway as opposed to the other buildings..
