Why Travelers Choose This Tour

After morning pickup from a central meeting point, travel to Chichen Itza for early access to the ruins. Follow your guide through the UNESCO World Heritage Site before most of the crowds arrive, allowing up-close access and a more tranquil experience.

Purchase your ticket and head inside to learn about the important role that this well-preserved site played in Mayan civilization between AD 600 and 1200 from your private archaeologist guide. Listen to your guide's explanation of how this pre-Colombian settlement was an important destination for pilgrimages and a center of worship for the Mayan people which is still considered sacred today.

Visit the Temple of Kukulkan, the Temple of the Jaguars, the Temple of the Warriors and the Observatory. Hear about the meaning of the staircases, stone carvings, platforms, pyramids, and ball courts according to the mythology and cosmology of the ancient Mayan people.

Board your vehicle and enjoy a boxed lunch for transportation back to Cancun.
Stop At:
Chichen Itza
Your tour begins with an early morning departure. Arriving at Chichen Itza, join your specialized guide for an in-depth tour of the site, and enjoy the tranquility of your early-morning visit before the crowds arrive. Throughout the trip, your archaeological guide’s commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population. Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases. Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan.  Return around 3:00 p.m. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Chichen Itza helps you to beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure!

You need to experience this!!

This was an awesome tour!! Especially made so by Marco, our knowlegdable, charming, amazing guide. He makes you feel like you were there with his story-telling skills and reaccount of the history of this magnificent place. Lila was also a wonderful help to me when i got ill from too much heat and sun. She was attentive and really seemed to care. Remember when you go on this tour (and you should because early access is the way to go) bring cold water, umbrella and sunscreen even a fan if you can because it gets insanely hot even in March.

A good value visit to one of the 7 Wonders of the World !!
, Mar 2020
We would definitely recommend this good value early morning tour to miss the heat and crowds. We were picked up outside the Crown Paradise Hotel in Cancun promptly at 5am and taken by comfortable coach to Chichen Itza in about two hours including a comfort break. We were the second coach to arrive and were able to get many photos of the historical buildings before the hordes of visitors taking selfies spoilt the views. Our Mayan guide Frank took care to keep our group together and he spoke very good English. He gave us an in-depth tour of the buildings, explaining how the Mayans used their astronomical observations to site and construct the buildings. These included creating special effects with light from the Sun (and Moon) on the pyramid steps on certain dates in the year. He demonstrated some interesting acoustic properties of the buildings including sound amplification and the conversion of hand clapping into bird calls. Note that you can no longer climb these buildings. Being Mayan, he was very passionate in regretting the way the Mayan culture and language had been suppressed by the Spanish Roman Catholic invasion of Yucatan. There are now moves to raise the profile of the Mayans and some of the tour income contributes to this. I bought an analysis of my birthdate according to one of the Mayan calendars for 450 pesos to find out that I am actually over 1.8 million days old ! (40% of cost goes to the Mayan cause). When we left Chichen Itza there were 19 coaches at the site! Before returning to Cancun there was an opportunity to purchase Mayan made souvenirs in a nearby village. The tour included an adequate pack lunch. Some advice: take something warm to wear in the coach as the powerful air-conditioning is not to everyone's liking!

Great day with Marco as our guide. The tour was changed for another leaving a bit later though and we arrived at Chichen itza only around 9:30am so I can't say how the other tour goes.

Awesome earlymorning tour with Marco
, Mar 2020
We took the early tour with Marco as a guide with Amiga tours. I couldn't be more pleased with this trip. Chitchen Itza was by far the coolest thing I've ever seen in my entiraly my life and Marco is a passionated pro as a guide for Chitzhen Itza. He even helped us with a bus to the next stop in our journey. I am also really happy that we took the early tour before the place got to crowded.

Excellent coordination and guide
, Mar 2020
Despite the early morning pickup, the trip proceeded smoothly and easily. The bus was obvious and on time, the coordinators helpful. It's worth calling to get the nearest pickup point to where you're staying--we ended up only having to walk about 500 meters up the road to a stop instead of one of the listed ones. The bus is luxurious, and you can easily sleep on the drive in the morning. Our tour guide Marco was knowledgeable, well spoken, and engaging. He shepherded the trip excellently. Chichen Itza itself is awe-inspiring. Thankfully this is one of the few day trips where you get more time at the site itself, and even some without many other tourists, hence the early morning. Overall extremely pleased.

Don't buy this tour

Similar to another review, the event details stated they would pick me up at my hotel. I waited there for almost an hour and nobody came. I tried calling them, texted them and sent a message through viator and never got a single response. Now I'm trying to get my money back.

This is the right way to do Chichen Itza
, Mar 2020
Early departure worthwhile, only a few small groups when we arrived, parking lot choked with buses by the time we left. Marco was an excellent guide, taught us much about the Mayan people past & present. Modern van is a comfortable ride. Well worth the price.
