Excellent sight seeing but horrible 3 hr drive back to hotel
Brenda_L
, Apr 2022
The sites were absolutely stunning. Edwin was our tour guide at the beginning, and highly recommend asking for him. My HUGE COMPLAIN is that at Tulum we split off with another guide. The awful thing about this it's this group now had people who were picked up from different hotels and it took over 3 hours to get to our hotel! Instead of the standard 1 hr that took us to get to our first spot. The email never came to specify where we were going to be picked up so had to call. The tour itself magnificent, they just need better organizing when dropping people off.

Coba and Tulum tour: Never showed up
Anonymous

There were no memorable parts of our tour because the service never picked us up. They claimed we never confirmed our pick up location even though we had messages with them confirming the date, place and time!

How do you leave without a passenger?
Ken_M
, Feb 2022
Picked up 1st at 7:00am but dropped off last at 9:30pm. Went to Tulum and Mike the guide was awesome. 2 of us had to switch to another bus going to Coba and the guide was terrible. Didn’t even go into Coba with group. Cenote was ok but everyone on your commented they would have rather had more time in Coba and skip the Cenote. The bus driver regularly missed turns and had to double back. And the highlight - the driver and guide left Coba and forgot a passenger. I had to stop the bus and tell them to return (person was not with me - I just remembered them). The bus left 10 min early so it was not passengers fault. 5 stars for Mike at Tulum and 0 stars for the balance of day. 13.5 hours with expecting max 12.

Excellent tour, excellent guide!

Excellent tour, learned a lot about Mayan culture and history. We went on February 11th and the tour guide for the first half, Luis, was the best tour guide we’ve ever encountered. Full of knowledge and humour. We were part of the group that went to Coba so didn’t get his expertise the second half. But excellent tour, don’t hesitate.

Company SAT MEXICO Tour...
Angela_T
, Jan 2022
Company SAT MEXICO Tour and Travel did an amazing job from the pick up to the tour and to the drop off. They went out of their way to accommodate my pick up and drop off location by my request. The tour guides were professional, informative and spoke English well. The tour itself was great. My favorite part was the Cenote. It was a perfect Centore for me as I’m not a swimmer and appreciated that this Cenote had shallow areas for non-swimmers. The only think that I would recommend is to give a little less time to Coba tour to have a little more time spent in the Cenote. But overall, they did a great job.
Best tour for families!

We had the best day full of adventure! Edwin was the best tour guide and made the trip so much more informational and interesting!!
Did not take us to Cenote Kin-Ha, part of the tour was primarily Spanish
Neil_V
, Oct 2021
The booking states that you will visit Cenote Kin-Ha which has a $15 admission fee. The fee is collected the morning of, however, we were taken to a different Cenote and were never informed of this. The listing needs to be updated. We were the only English speaking group during the Coba tour - as a result, the tour guide mainly spoke in Spanish and neglected to translate many things for us. This was not an issue in Tulum as we had more English speaking tourists in our group so they split us up. Overall a decent experience for the price but expected more polish

Tulum was closed, but we made the best of it!
Molly_S
, May 2021
I took this tour during May 2021. Because of that, we were unable to visit Tulum, as it was shut-down by the government due to the pandemic.
Instead of visiting Tulum, we visited Muyil. This is not as grand as Tulum, but it was an acceptable replacement! There was a surprise tour through a swamp, which ended at a lagoon. While I had a complaint about not knowing about this beforehand (see bottom of review), it was well-worth it because I was able to walk up a platform and lookout over the swamp and lagoon. This was BEAUTIFUL. If you aren't afraid of heights, make sure you do this!
Don't touch the green-covered trees! Apparently these are poisonous!? Scary, but cool!
After Muyil, we visited Coba (now back on schedule regarding original itinerary). Coba was cool. I thought we'd be able to walk up Coba, but it seems that's been ended sometime recently. :( However, I don't think our tour guide would have given us any free-time if I hadn't asked at the first set of ruins. Even so, we were only given 10 minutes at that section. We should have been given around 45 minutes to wander all of the ruins on our own. It was very hurried.
Afterwards, we went to lunch. Lunch was not good.
Then we went into the cenote (same location as lunch). The cenote was small and cute! There is a "bat cave", but the bats don't bite or come near you -- so don't worry about going in there! The cenote also had three swings that seat underwater, which was my favorite part of the cenote! Life vests are strongly encouraged, and if you don't want to wear one, make sure you inform the tour guides. They will watch you for a little while to make sure you are a good swimmer (I understand, re: liability issues!), but otherwise will leave you alone. Be careful swimming around, as the cenote is a little rough and different levels all throughout the cenote. Don't jump in or swim too quickly, as you might hit the rough rocks at the shallower areas!
Someone else on a different review recommended water-shoes. It wouldn't hurt at this cenote, but don't bring them or buy them if you don't already own them OR have space in your bag. They aren't necessary.
Make sure to bring small bills to tip the Shaman. I didn't end up buying anything here (even though there were cool things there) because everything seemed really over-priced at the shopping hut!
My only complaints regarding this tour are:
1. that I wasn't informed about Tulum's closing until the day or two before (I wondered if this was on purpose, since we wouldn't have as much time to cancel and find another trip?)
2. lunch was not good. I was hoping for a traditional Mexican meal or options, but instead we were offered pork, hamburgers and pizza type of options (very American). The pizza was clearly frozen and was undercooked. Very underwhelming.
3. lack of information about Muyil -- while I liked this location, we didn't know we'd be wandering through a swamp and we were bitten by several mosquitos. It would have been nice to be told to bring bug-spray.
4. no free-time to wander Muyil or Coba (even 30 minutes at each would have been appreciated!)
Packing list:
Since the cenote is at the end of the day, I did NOT wear my bathing suit underneath my outfit. There is a changing room at the cenote.
I wore jean shorts and a casual work-out top with tennis shoes. I don't think you'd need tennis shoes if you actually go to Tulum or Coba, but if you end up going to Muyil -- definitely wear tennis shoes!
Then I packed a towel, waterproof case for phone, bathing suit, water-proof shoes/flip flops, iPad (to read on the bus while driving), sun screen, sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
All in all, it was a good tour! Just a few areas were underwhelming and not what I expected.

Great Trip. Great Guide. Great Cultural Excursion.

, Nov 2020
We had a great experience with our guide Alan, and driver Jorge. Alan kept all of us entertained on the (about) 2 hour ride to Tulum from Cancun. We had a smaller group, presumable due to CV19. Bus was comfortable.
Alan was very engaging and knowledgeable about our destination and Mayan culture. Visit to Tulum was good - not too crowded due to CV19, and Alan was a knowledgeable guide through the ruins. Next stop was Coba, which had a completely flooded parking lot due to recent rains. We chose to rent the bikes to get to the points of interest, which are are fair distanced apart. I recommend the bikes . At $3 a piece - worth it. It rained a bit while there, but Alan had umbrellas if you wanted them.
Last stop was the cenotes and lunch. Lunch was late in the day for us (2-3pm), so pack a snack. Cenotes were very pristine, and we got the group timing right that we had them to ourselves. Take a change of clothes. Lunch was very good also, with 3 courses.
Highly recommend! Great Value.

Great way to explore the surrounding areas of Cancun.

The tour was excellent. We learned an incredible about of information about the Mayan culture. The Tulum and Coba areas were beautiful. The Cenote was refreshing and the lunch good. There is some traveling involved at least from Cancun area. One thing I wish I had done was to read up some on the Mayan's before the trip so I could have better absorbed all the info presented by our guide. Either way it was a great tour.

Good tour to Tulum and Coba
Gary_C
, Sep 2019
We had a great time taking the Viator tour to Tulum and Coba. The tour was advertised for 12 hours in duration but it took only 9 hours, which is OK by us. The tour guide Luis was very friendly, knowledgeable, patient and enthusiastic. He gave great narratives of the ruins and the Mayan culture. Lunch was at a local Mayan restaurant by the cenote. The cenote was beautiful, and the water was so clear. The restaurant was not fancy but food was tasty and staff was friendly - a good fit with the ambiance. Pick up at our hotel was right on schedule. I did have some problem with how the pick up time was communicated. Two days before the tour, I called Viator and the representative gave me an incorrect time for pickup. I also received an email from the local tour operator who gave me the correct time (a difference of an hour). I had to contact the local tour operator again to confirm. It was rather frustrating. Other than that, I wish we could spend a bit more time in Coba, since it is such a large cite. But overall, it was a very enjoyable tour.

In general the tour was good. Our driver was great. Our guide was just Ok. I have traveled to many places and taken many tours, however, this is the first time that I see a tour guide leave behind part of his group and walk in front with just the fast walkers...
Response from Host , Aug 2019
Dear Traveler,
Let me thank you for visiting Mexico and taking the time to give us a review.
Regarding your comments, we are very sorry you feel that way, as you know, you book a shared tour, this means you would shared the tour with more people from other places of the world and everyone would like to have different timings, but unfortunately we have an intinerary that would like to respect for everyone to enjoy the tour, the guide dictates the times for everyone as equal, so you would have time for history information and free time for pictures.
We thank you and encourage your decision to make it public through this and hopefully more social media channels; feedback is the base of a good service company, and as they say “even bad advertising is still advertisement”. So again THANK YOU for taking the time.
SAT MEXICO Team thank you for leaving your review and looking forward to serving you again.
best wishes,
SAT MEXICO Team
