We Had A Blast!

My family and I had an amazing experience. I was a bit concerned before the excursion that it would be too much for my almost 60 year old mother but she had more fun than I did! Truly an experience not to miss out on when in Cancun. The staff were attentive, professional, and welcoming. We felt safe at all times and will definitely do this tour again!

Great Tour but Stay Away from Hotel Pick-Up

If you’re purchasing the all-inclusive package with the transportation to/from the marina, READ ON! This tour was lovely. My family had a great time and Island Mujeres is a must-visit if you’re in Cancun. If you need transportation from your resort to the marina and back, however, I suggest you reserve your own or get a taxi at the resort. One day before our scheduled tour, I hadn’t heard from Amigo Tours Mexico regarding transportation and what time they planned to pick us up. So I messaged them on Viator (don’t bother calling the number you Google for them; no one ever answers). They replied within a few hours and said we’d be picked up at our resort at 8:55am the next day. We were told that the bus can only wait 5 minutes, so we needed to be on time. We were outside waiting for the bus at 8:50am. Five minutes passed and nothing. We told the concierge we were waiting for a tour bus and he said he hadn’t seen one pull in yet. 9:00am came and still nothing. Mind you, the catamaran was scheduled to leave at 9:30am. 9:10am came around and still nothing, so I decided to call them. No answer. Called multiple times—nothing. I messaged them on Viator around the same time as I was trying to call and nothing. So we hopped in a taxi and I messaged Amigo Tours on Viator again to tell them we had grabbed a taxi. As we were en route to the marina, at 9:18am, I get a message on Viator from Amigo Tours telling me they would check on the the driver’s whereabouts. At 9:20am, I get another message saying the driver was at the resort looking for us but no one was there. Mind you, they told us 8:55am and that they could only wait 5 minutes. This was now at 9:20. Almost 30 minutes AFTER the agreed upon time. If the bus had been there at all looking for us when we were there, the concierge would’ve known or we would’ve seen a bus pull up. So if any bus came at all, it was after we left in a taxi around 9:12am—almost 20 minutes after the time they promised. Thankfully, the marina was only a few blocks away from our resort (too hot to walk), so we got there in enough time to check in as the lines were somewhat long and the process a little convoluted. By 9:30am, we were on the catamaran and by 9:40am, we left the marina. If we hadn’t made the decision to get a taxi, we may have missed the catamaran. The transportation back to the resort was less complicated. There were others on our tour who also purchased transportation, so they were already waiting for all of us. We stayed at the resort closer to the marina at the north end of the Hotel Zone, but it would require the bus driver to make a u-turn to drop us off. So, instead, they took us all the way down to the very south of the Hotel Zone to drop everyone else first. We were the closest to the marina and the last to be dropped off. If I had known, I would’ve just gotten another taxi. I did request a refund from Amigo Tours for the first taxi and they approved it. So not all bad. I would, however, seriously advise not booking the transportation piece with them. We read the reviews on here recounting they same issue with pick-up at the resort but decided to ignore it. It was a mistake. Also, Amigo Tours is just an intermediary. The actual tour company is Cancun Sailing. Google them and book the tour directly through them. They offer a ton of other packages and options on their website. Transportation aside, I’m giving this 4 stars because the tour was actually really nice, the island was beautiful (wish we had more time there—after getting there around noon and eating lunch, you only get about 2 hours on the island), but the catamaran trip was very rowdy. Loud music and they encouraged people to party/dance. This would’ve been fine if 1) we weren’t still in the middle of a pandemic and 2) it was disclosed when we made the reservation. We’re not party people, so all we wanted was to take a nice relaxing boat ride, lie on the deck catching some rays, and it was impossible to do that with the loud music and people screaming. Also, while on the island, don’t bother renting a golf cart. They don’t have enough of them and we WASTED 30 mins waiting for one only to give up and just return to the beach.

We were blind-sided with an upgrade presentation the second we arrived at the Marina, no one warned me this would happen, we were coerced into upgrading and paying the extra 400 dollars and NOTHING that was promised was delivered, I highly recommmed you don’t take this tour!

The tour was worth doing. A few warnings: read all the guidelines carefully. Watch out for crime on the island. Stay in a group, don’t let kids go without adults. Tour guides were fun and helpful. The company didn’t send us a pick up time like they were supposed to. We would have missed the whole tour because of that but we were proactive and had someone who could speak Spanish call and make sure we were picked up on time. I enjoyed the sailing more then being on the island. Next time I wiped just do the sailing tour.

Transportation wasn't that good. Hotel pickup was not offered even though the description said they offer hotel pickup. The sailing crew was good!

DO NOT Recommend!! We received email with 830 am pick at hotel and they came by at 7:39am and left us. didn’t even call us to let us know. Then why do they ask for a phone number when making a reservation Now we had a wasted day with no plans - so unprofessional.

It was a good experience overall. It’s suited for adults and teenagers mainly. I do not recommend for seniors or young children as they will be sun baked throughout the whole ride. If you don’t like being on a time frame, this trip is not for you. We were allowed about 1 hour to snorkel only. It was pretty cool though and I wish it could have been longer. The food buffet was okay and not the best. When we got to downtown of the island, we had only 2 hours to tour which is not enough time to do things on the island. I don’t recommend renting a golf cart because there’s not enough time. The island was beautiful and the vibe was great. There’s too much to see and do on the island so it’s better off taking a ferry there and spending the whole day there. The staff on the boat were great and friendly. It was a good experience but to get the best out of the island, it’s better to take a ferry there. If you like drinking alcohol and sun bathing, this trip is for you.
