VIP Upgrade worth it!
, Jul 2020
Upgraded to the VIP boat ($60), was well worth it! Was only 7 of us and a crew, the amenities on board made you feel like you were sailing in a Cadillac, the snorkeling was short (20-30 minute) but there was a ton of beautiful fish to see, the buffet on the island tasted great, and the music on the sail back was fun. highly recommend!
We requested hotel pickup and were picked up exactly on time. We drove a short distance to the dock and waited in line to pay a marine fee of $13. This was not mentioned in the booking info of this excursion. Although the marine fee is not being charged by them, it should still be mentioned so persons can be aware. Shortly after that we got onto the catamaran. The experience was a exceptional one. The boat was beautiful and the staff were very friendly and full of energy. The music selection was awesome! There was an open bar and soon after boarding they came by and offered you a beverage. Isla Mujeres is a beautiful town with a lot of personality. They give you two hours to browse, shop etc. The food at the buffet (another stop) was excellent. Real food. Not burgers and fries. But fish, rice, chicken, vegetables etc. It was such a relaxing and enjoyable day. Highly recommend.
The crew were excellent. Couldn’t have been more attentive. Quite a lively, fun boat trip filled with music. Not for those wanting a quiet sailing day. Was only a little disappointed that there was no snorkelling allowed due to weather but we saw lots of other boats out that day snorkelling.
Having done many catamaran excursions I have to say this wasn't my favourite. It was very disorganized with hundreds of people arriving at the dock at the same time. Then staff members tried to get people to upgrade to a better boat, for much more money, which felt uncomfortably salesy...we already paid a lot for the boat, asking for even more felt unnecessary. Unfortunately we couldn't snorkel due to bad weather, and of course we appreciated the safety concerns but I wish it had been more clear that this wasn't a guarantee.
Isla Mujeres was a bit of a let down, it was incredibly touristy with people trying to lure you in to buy typical tourist items. I would have preferred to just be out on the water and have more time to swim instead.
The drop off was terrible as well. Our hotel is one of the first on the strip. So we were first to get picked up, ie the earliest time slot. Then instead of re-doing that route, the bus went backwards and stopped at 5+ hotels before getting to us. It took over an hour. Not to mention the main road has a divider in the middle so we had to keep crossing the road and making a U-turn. They should have driven all the way down to the end so the bus could drive 1 direction, and we wouldn't have spent almost 2 hours of our day on the bus. In hindsight we should have paid for a cab back from the dock.
The bathrooms on the boat were also disgusting, and the ladies room was overflowed and couldn't be used. Luckily we docked often and could use restrooms off the boat.
I will say the staff on the boat were very friendly, very attentive-always ready to fill up our cups with more beer :)
My family had an awesome time sailing on the Paradise! Even those who had never sailed before. Pickup was prompt, and all of the service was friendly and clean. The boat was nice and all of the staff wanted to make sure you were having a good time. Snorkeling was fun but definitely only for strong swimmers, as the current is strong. We saw the underwater museum which was neat. Then we stopped for lunch in a secluded beach club, which had something for everyone, even the picky eaters. We had time to relax in a pool and go to the beach. Then the boat took off for Playa Norte. We had 2 hours on the island which was plenty of time to rent a golf cart. Everyone had a lovely day.
