Departure Time

7:30 AM
Depart your central Cairns or Northern Beaches hotel by air-conditioned bus and venture into rural North Queensland. Composed of highlands, tropical rainforests, and waterfalls, this pristine region is renowned for its beauty and ancient culture.

Visit the Babinda Boulders, a tropical creek lined with huge boulders, and hear about the aboriginal legends that surround this magical-looking place. Then head to your first swim spot, Josephine Falls, and slide down the natural rock slide.

Continue to the Atherton Tablelands and swim in the Millaa Millaa Falls. Bordered by protected rainforest, this 59-foot (18-meter) single-drop waterfall has featured in several TV ads.

After a country-style lunch at Australia’s largest timber pub, continue to Mt. Hypipamee Crater, a pipe-shaped, 278-foot (85-meter) deep crater. Take a bushland walk to admire the crater lake, watch for wildlife like possum and emu-like cassowarys, and stop to bathe in the idyllic Dinner Falls.

After visiting a creek to search for platypus, enjoy another swim and a sunset stop at Lake Eacham, famous for its turtles.

Finally, return to Cairns, perhaps playing the provided games on your bus before your trip ends at the original starting point.

We were picked up from our hotel in the morning by the tour guide named Sam. He was absolutely amazing and had a lot of knowledge about the area. He made the trip so much fun with his jokes, music and facts. We went to Babinda Boulders, Josephine Falls, Millaa Millaa Waterfall and Lake Eacham. We were able to swim in all the falls. The views were absolutely magnificent! Definitely a must go when visiting Cairns.

Atherton Tablelands Waterfall Wanderer tour.

Overall an very enjoyable and well presented bus trip. Our humourous and knowledgeable bus driver Jim helped make it a memorable day for us all to experience the rainforest walks, some swimming, climbing and sliding down a rock formation in the cool clear river waters of the Atherton Tablelands waterfalls. There were rainforest features such as the Curtain fig tree, spotting some wetland wildlife: such as fish, turtles, bush turkeys. I saw my first platypus swimming in the wild from a creek bank 3 meters away. The lunch and drinks break was quite an interesting stop at the historic 'Big Hotel' built by a pioneering family in grand style from locally cut and milled timbers mainly red cedar.
