The Danube Symphony Orchestra has been pleasing audiences throughout Europe since 1961 with its wide-ranging repertoire, including baroque music as well as contemporary stylings. What keeps the orchestra unique to Hungary is the accompaniment of the cimbalom, a traditional Hungarian folk instrument played by striking two beaters against a range of strings.

Your Budapest Gala concert is held at either Pesti Vigadó or Danube Palace in Budapest. Take your seat in either the front or middle rows for an up-close experience and watch the Danube Symphony Orchestra accompanied by ballet dancers, solo operetta singers from the Budapest Operetta Theatre and an authentic Hungarian gypsy band. A solo performance by a singer from the national Virtuosos Talent Show is also included in the program.

Every concert consists of two 45-minute sections, with an intermission between. (A sample program is available below). During the break, enjoy a glass of wine or beer at the bar, purchase DVDs of the Danube Symphony Orchestra or browse Hungarian keepsakes.

Concert plus DinnerUpgrade your ticket to continue the evening with a late-night cruise along the Danube River. When the concert concludes, a guide will lead you to the pier so you can step aboard your 90-minute cruise. The interior of the boat is lit by candlelight, while the windows boast glowing views of the city’s landmarks. Sip Sparkling wine and wine or beer as you admire the scenery, followed by a dinner of traditional Hungarian dishes, served buffet-style. (Sample menu is provided below.)

After wining and dining, travel to the fresh air of the upper deck for unrivaled views of Budapest’s panorama, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll pass the regal Buda Castle, the Gellért Baths and the Chain Bridge before returning to the Danube Palace. When you debark, your host can assist with calling a taxi if you wish.

There is also a possibility to enjoy the Gala Concert & Cruise program if you are not hungry, join us for a Drink & Cruise to relax on our boats while having a couple of drinks. Drink Cruise includes one welcome drink and an optional beverage.

The Danube orchestra Cimbalom concert was fantastic and recommended to all lovers of orchestral music. We didn't attend the dinner cruise due to timing and changes to our flights.

Really enjoyed the first half of the concert, but the second half just seemed to drag. It was very hot and stuffy in the room.

The concert was exceptional and included the symphony, Hungarian dancers from the Hungarian ballet and marvelous opera singers. A guide took us on a 5 minute walk to the boat. The food was delicious best I have ever eaten on a siteseeing cruise and the views from the tables were marvelous. The only caution I give is that there was only a small open deck on top of the boat to take pictures and was filled with smokers so if you want to take pictures at night, this is not the right cruise. Enjoy!
