Medoc, well worth a visit

Perfect winery tour experience in the Left Bank region of Bordeaux
Tessa_C
, Jul 2022
Our winery tour experience was absolutely perfect - we were lucky enough to end up in a mini van with our group of friends (5) so it felt like a private tour, and our guide Angie was lovely, friendly and professional. She talked us through the local area and shared some interesting facts about the wine industry in France; and just made us feel welcome and accommodated throughout the day.
The first chateau tour was impressive and the local guide was knowledgeable and passionate - the second was a tasting only (no tour), but this fit well within the four hours we had & did not feel rushed.
Highly recommend this tour to any cab sav lovers!
Excellent tour.

Service can be better. We have a interesting combined group of people for the trip, the guide is just ok but I wish he could give some intro about the famous châteaux we passed through super fast or even stop for a sneak peek for that’s one of the highlight of the médoc trip. But he seems to in a rush and just wanna get it done and over with. the wineries we visited were disappointing. The staff of both wineries do not have enough knowledge to give an informative intro and some of very expected questions they couldn’t answer about the history of thé châteaux. E.g. people asked why one of thé châteaux we visited was painted in pink as obviously this is not commonly seen elsewhere. The answer was « because it was paint like that a long time ago ». I google everything myself eventually.
The full day trip in saint-émilions by guide Camille was way better.

Bonjour Jing_H,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience.
Indeed, you should have had more information about the Chateaux you passed through. The service is a key point to us. That being said, sometimes due to the traffic, the eventual delay at the departure, the itinerary may change and the guide has to adapt the pace of the tour.
Regarding the service offered into the Chateaux, I am a little bit surprise as we select carefully the wineries for our visits. However, I really take seriously your comment and will check your reservation to know more your tour. Thanks for the comment about Camille! I am pleased to know you enjoyed one tour with us.
We sincerely hope to have the opportunity to regain your confidence during a future excursion in France.

Everyone involved in the tour was wonderful, including our guide Luigi who made the experience fun and light while also being very knowledgeable. The information was understandable for a novice but even those more educated on the subject learned new things! All in all a wonderful experience!

Luigi, our guide, was well-versed in the Bordeaux wine area and gave us many insights about the history of the city as well as details about wine production. He had a sense of humour which was much appreciated too! We went to two châteaus and tried a total of 5 wines and bought a few bottles too! Great tour ☺️

Not your typical wine tasting
Lauren_R
, Aug 2021
Not a lot of wine tasting, especially for this price…. It’s not your normal wine tasting… it’s more history + process + showing their cellar. I was bored and there were kids on this tour which was a little annoying with their banging on everything + the never ending childish questions to our guide for an hour drive…
Enclosed van with careless maskers made this a terrible day
SusanColette_D
, Jul 2021
This was a dreadful day for us. The tour guide was very good. The two chateaux we visited were fine. The problem with the experience was that there were 8 people in a closed van, and 4 people were not careful to keep their masks on. All three in my group are older people who have struggled during the pandemic to remain safe. We are all vaccinated. We came to France as soon as it was possible because of a baby grandson who was born in France during the pandemic; it is our first chance to meet him. We felt vulnerable during the 45-min rides to and from the Medoc region. The tour guide knew I was worried, and reminded all the attendees several times to wear their masks over nose and mouth, but could not wield any power to ensure cooperation. It did not occur to me that we would have to ride in a van with windows closed and strangers exhaling freely and talking non-stop. These are conditions very conducive to virus transmission. I realize that lax maskers the world over are a problem that is difficult to solve, but if the van had had windows open there wouldn't be as dangerous a situation. (Circulation of air-conditioned air is not a protection against the virus.) The tour company feels righteous, and responded to me that I should have booked a private tour if I was worried about Covid. I would never have done that due to the cost, but we would have done our own Medoc tour, which we have done in the past, and did in St. Emilion today (the day after the Medoc tour). If you are at all worried about Covid, for yourself or for grandchildren or other loved ones, make sure before you book whether there will be ventilation in your vehicle.
Response from Host , Jul 2021
Dear SusanC,
After having responded to your email, I will now respond to your review that, as you can imagine, I was expecting. First of all, I am happy that you point out that the tour guide and the wineries visited were good which is the main objective of this tour.
It seems that ventilation of our vehicles is the main concerne of your commentary. As everyone knows, all vehicles have windows that can open which is the case of our Mercedes minivans with their two front windows. In any case, and this is what I mentioned to you in my email, all our vans are disinfected before every tour with an anti-virus disinfectant that is specifically adapted to tour companies!
How does this work? Before each tour, the interior of the van is completely sprayed, then closed and the ventilation is operated so that the disinfectant spreads through the whole vehicle. The venitlation and A/C used during the short time you were in the van insures that the antivirus product continues to circulate in the vehicle.
Concerning your other comment about mask wearing by the other travelers, as you mention, our guide went out of her way to talk the clients into wearing their masks properly several times. Unfortunately, they did not comply with this and in the end there was not much more she could do about it. Our employees are professional tour guides, not law enforcement!
I find it therefore unfair that you should blame our company for this at a time when small businesses like ours have just re-opened and are doing their very best to welcome all guests in the safest possible way! Since our re-opening in February, not one single negative comment has been made concerning our Covid safety procedures.
Medoc the underrated gem of Bordeaux

We took a day train to Bordeaux and this tour was perfect! Angie was our tour guide. She was very friendly, funny and super knowledgeable. What was also great was that we were the only couple who decided to go to Medoc because everyone usually goes to St. Emilion, so we basically had a private tour! It was beautiful driving through the countryside, and Angie took us to some other chateaus as well just to take pictures and give us some more history about the area. We visited Chateau Dauzac and Chateau Marquis de Terme. The staff at both were so friendly and inviting and the wine was delicious! Angie even offered to drive us back much closer to the train station since we ran into some traffic on the way back from the wineries and we had an earlier train to catch. We actually had to leave France early because of the coronavirus scare and the US issuing a travel ban, so this was basically the only thing we got to do in our short stay but it was very worth it. We will definitely do the full tour next time we come! Ask for Angie!!!

Medoc Half-Day Wine Tour
John_D

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour of two wineries in the Medoc region. Our guide Lea met us on time and shared her impressive knowledge of wine growing in the Bordeaux region as we drove through the beautiful countryside to and from the wineries. The experience at each of the wineries, although quite different, were both very informative and enjoyable including tastings.
we were not hesitate to do additional tours with this group and highly recommend them.
