Returns to original departure point
Teeming with vibrant marine life, the protected waters of Kealakekua Bay off the Kona coast make for an ideal snorkeling destination. Begin your adventure at Honokohau Marina just north of Kailua-Kona, where you’ll meet your captain and climb aboard a 24-foot (7-meter) inflatable Zodiac raft — an agile, rigid-hull vessel used by the US Coast Guard and Navy SEALs.

As you cruise south along the beautiful Kona coastline, learn about the island’s fascinating history as your guide shares local facts and legends. See the Captain Cook monument, where the first European made contact with Hawaii, and keep an eye out for local marine life including spinner dolphins and humpback whales (during winter). Explore the Big Island’s volcanic history as your raft darts in and out of sea caves and past rocky lava tubes.

Slip on a provided snorkeling mask and fins and plunge into the warm, clear water to swim among schools of electric-colored fish and intricate coral gardens. After approximately 1.5 hours of snorkeling, climb back aboard the raft and refuel with a fresh Hawaiian snack and beverages (or picnic-style lunch on the 10 am departure).

Continue along the spectacular coastline back to the marina, where your 4- to 5-hour adventure concludes.

Please note: Due to the bumpy nature of the raft ride, this tour is not recommended for those with back or neck problems, or pregnant women.

Awesome experience! This is the second time I’ve done this and I highly recommend it. Captain Rick and fin are very accommodating and very knowledgeable of the sites. Go on the early tour they get you out there before anybody else.

Glad you had a wonderful time snorkeling with Captain Rick and Finn!! Kealakekua bay is the most popular destination so it can fill up fast with other boats and kayaks. It really helps to either get there first or get there when they all leave, like the Beat the Crowd tour does. Happy you had the bay to yourselves for the first part! Mahalo,

Really exciting to be with Darren and Mia! He was so knowledgeable of the history of Hawaii. Mia was so helpful with getting everyone ready for snorkeling and snacks.. They were great! Darren even went out of his way to show us a shark! Felt totally confident in their care!

Our family had an incredible experience on the Zodiac Adventure. I’m not what the highlight was…playful dolphins, beautiful fish or the humor and camaraderie of Captain Rick and Devante. Thank you for the fun and laughs!!

Deron is Great!

, Jul 2021
My husband and I booked this excursion for our honeymoon on the Big Island. We both love to snorkel and were so excited to experience this in a new place together. Our tour guide, Deron, was not only highly knowledgeable about marine life and boating safety, but he also made everyone feel extremely comfortable and safe during the trip. He brought us right by a huge pod of spinner dolphins and tracked down a pod of about 50 pilot whales! After snorkeling, he took us to a handful of sea caves along the coast while telling us about the history of lava tubes, Hawaiian deities, and the islands. This excursion is well worth the money. We loved it! Thank you Deron!

What a nice review :). Deron has so much knowledge to share and is an expert at finding animals, I'm glad your day was a success! Congratulations on your marriage!

This was the most fun my family had on our trip. My 13, 11, and 7 year old loved this adventure. Amanda and Bryce made it even better with their humor and knowledge of Hawaii culture. We saw whales, snorkeled, and took a dip in the middle of the pacific! Only advice I can give, is don’t jump in with your sunglasses on. If you’re in Kona, you have to check this out and make sure you ask for Amanda and Bryce!

Aloha Kevin, Thank you for the nice review! Great advice on removing the sunglasses before jumping in ;)

JC and Davante showed us a great time. Being in the Zodiac allowed us to get up close to a whale shark. Something you can’t do on the bigger boats.
