This full day adventure of the Big Island of Hawaii begins on the Kona coast, where you’re picked up from your Kona or Kohala hotel, and driven north on a scenic journey past historic Parker Ranch—which has operated as one of the largest ranches in America since 1847.

As you pass through the ranching town of Waimea, watch as the landscape changes from pastures to green, tropical rainforest, as sweeping views of the Hamakua Coast start creeping into view. During a stop at Waipio Valley lookout, marvel at the way the vertical cliffs seem to explode from the green valley floor and hear the tales of how King Kamehameha was raised in this valley as a child. The adventure continues as you wind your way down the Hamakua Coast, past roadside towns with singsong names until you reach Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls.

Make your way back toward sea level at Punalu’u Beach, where you’ll take a stroll on a black-sand beach and search for Hawaiian green sea turtles. Head next to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, before rounding the southern tip of the island, the southernmost point in America. Look out for Kealakekua Bay, the spot where Captain Cook was killed in a skirmish with Native Hawaiians.

Stop at a Kona coffee farm to learn about the coffee growing process and walk through a lava tube.

Finally, your tour finishes back in Kona with a drop off at your hotel, where you’ve earned the right to plop on the bed and relax after the full day adventure.

Please note: Depending on weather conditions, your tour may operate in reverse order.

Excellent way to take in so much on the big island all in one day!

This is a wonderful excursion filled with so many sights and tastes (yum!) Our guide was very bubbly and upbeat and taught us a great deal throughout the day. Everyone was tired by the end of the day and most didn’t want to go to the last stop on our tour - so be ready when it says it’s 12 hours. We logged over 12,00 steps but being in a shuttle van the entire day was what will make you the most tired :)

Fantastic Day Around the Big Island

This tour was awesome, a perfect introduction to the island if you have never been and want to get the pay of the land or if you have a limited amount of time. Our tour guide Robert gave us great information and told us stories of Hawaiian history in a dynamic and engaging manner. We saw some great sites. One of our favorites was getting up close to the erupting volcano. Akaka Falls and Waipi’o Valley were also fantastic. We saw a sea turtle at the black sand beach. The malasadas at the bakery were delicious! The shuttle ride was very comfortable. We made good time and even had time to stop at a fruit stand at the end. I would highly recommend this tour and Robert as a tour guide!

Jacklyn Ballard was an amazing tour guide. We took this tour with our children and grandchildren to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Jacklyn was extremely knowledgeable of the history of all that we saw. She made the day. Our grandchildren loved her interaction with them. Jacklyn was always offering water or soft drinks to us as well as snacks. The lunch was very good and my granddaughter enjoyed the vegetarian lunch. Jacklyn took pictures of our group and even dropped us off at a restaurant when we got back to town. Our daughter and son-in-law followed in their car as my daughter was just getting over COVID and Jacklyn was so accommodating with them and made sure they were following. The day was a day to remember. Thank you Jacklyn.

We truly enjoyed our trip with Wasabi tours and stopped at beautiful locations! Our guide Mia was the perfect driver and host for this great tour of Big Island! We learned a lot about Big Island at every stop and while on the road. She was very well prepared and made sure we had plenty of snacks, water and toilet stops available. Her positive energy, sense of humour, knowledge of the Island and great care made the tour even better! The little baby goats along the way would be a great add on to the tour and we highly recommend everyone visiting to explore the Island with Mia and Wasabi tours!

Alana is an amazing Tour Guide!! Very Knowledgeable and great personality.. Kudos for her enduring the long hours driving us around.. We loved the Lava Tube, Volcano National Park and walking through the Rainforest to view the 400 foot drop water fall. Only complaint is the rain coats need to be cleaned better.

We enjoyed all of the locations where we stopped. The best part of the tour was our driver/guide, Kurt Bell. Kurt was so knowledgeable about the history of the Big Island, which he freely shared with the group. Also, he shared his personal experiences living on the island. The history and life experiences made the tour a great learning experience. Viator/Wasabi Tours is fortunate to have Kurt as a guide.
