Start your trip from central Barcelona, continuing by an air-conditioned vehicle on a drive through the lush countryside to the charming village of Besalú. Once you arrive, hop out to begin a walking tour of this ancient city, stopping to admire its streets lined with medieval-era architecture. Then visit a nearby mikveh (a 12th-century Jewish bath) before stopping by a medieval synagogue.
Continue next to Castellfollit de la Roca, a positively minuscule town situated on the edge of a basalt cliff. This tiny village harbors 1,000 citizens in a town that’s just 3,280 square feet (1,000 square meters). Proceed to Rupit, where you have time to wander this beautiful hamlet at your leisure. Stroll the cobblestone roads lined with 16th-century houses, cross the city’s hanging wooden bridge, and make a visit Rupit’s baroque-era Church of Sant Miquel. Feel free to have lunch (at your own expense) before checking out the ruins of the Castle of Rupit set on a picturesque rocky peak.
After Rupit, take a scenic drive towards the sandstone cliffs at Cingles de Tavertet, set in the Ter River Valley, passing by the area’s megalithic tomb and its Iberian Wall as well. Then arrive in Tavertet, taking time to explore the area’s 48 preserved homes from the 16th and 17th centuries with your guide. Hear a few details about the village from your guide before checking out the 11th-century Romanesque Church of Sant Cristòfol. You then have time to take a break, grabbing a coffee (at your own expense) or enjoying a short walk to the scenic overlook at Panta de Sau lake.
Finish your trip with a ride back to Barcelona, during which you enjoy vistas of verdant-green forests like Magatalls, along with the UNESCO Man and Biosphere-listed El Montseny natural park. You are dropped off back at your departure point in Barcelona at the end of the day.

Comfortable bus and competent driver, Toni, made those switchbacks not so scary!! Gloria, our guide was very knowledgeable and theatrical. The 1st and 2nd villages were the most interesting historically, the 3rd with best scenery.
We enjoyed a day tour with Xavier and Miki to three wonderful medieval towns of Catalunya: Besalú, Rupit, and Tavertet. The visit was a discovery of medieval life and a history lesson. Xavier was very dynamic, interactive, inclusive, and extremely knowledgeable. His English skills were impecable. We truly appreciated his recommendation about what to do and see in Barcelona, even beyond this tour. His lunch recommendations were outstanding and the whole day went by smoothly. Miki was a very careful and prudent driver and made us feel safe at all times. We highly recommend this tour and congratulate Xavier and Miki for a job very well done.
We had such an amazing time! Our tour guide was great. We learned so much about the surrounding towns and enjoyed eating local cuisine. We had free time at each of the 3 town. Definitely would do again !
Anna, our tour guide was delightful and charming. Loves sharing the culture the language and history of Catalunya. Very fluent in English and we learned so much about architectural and cultural history of Medieval and Modern Catalunya. And knows all the most spectacular VIEWS! TOOK US THRU GORGEOUS COUNTRYSIDE & MOUNTAINS! Loved the winding streets and walled cities. And the FOOD!
Our guide Pablo was very knowledgeable and was able to give us the local history we were looking for in this tour. Our family of 4 was part of a group of 8 and it was the perfect size for exploring the area. We had free time in each village and the scenery on the drive was beautiful.
Great tour! I highly recommend it. Ana put together a really interesting selection of towns to visit, all the stops are worth your time (my favorite was Rupit!). Ana was very nice, fun, kept the group entertained and interested during the whole trip with relevant information and great insights.
We enjoyed our tour with Anna. The villages were lovely and there was enough time spent in each one. The bus was comfortable and the ride pleasant. It was a great way to spend a day outside of Barcelona.
