Return Details

Plaça de Catalunya, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

Depending on the size of the group and the traffic restrictions on the day of the tour, your tour will finish back at the office, or in Placa Catalunya, which is an easy 3-5 minute walk from the office.

Leave central Barcelona by air-conditioned minivan and set off on your day trip. As you travel, listen as your guide shares tales of Salvador Dalí’s life, and gaze out over the passing countryside and villages.

After a while, arrive in Figueres, Dalí’s birthplace and home to his famous Dalí Theatre-Museum. See the house where Dalí was born in 1904, and then continue to the museum. Home to a vast range of Dalí’s creations, it offers a unique insight into his works and artistic vision.

Marvel at the exterior with its giant, rooftop egg sculptures, and use your included ticket to skip any admission lines and head straight inside. Enjoy time to explore at leisure, and view everything from Dalí’s early experiments with cubism to later surrealist works such as the Galatea of the Spheres, and the famed Mae West Room installation.

Having explored here, reconvene with your guide and continue your tour as shown below depending on the time of year. For more details, see the Itinerary section.

Winter: Cadaqués and Port Lligat (September 1 - June 30):
Depart Figueres and make the scenic drive to Cadaqués. Admire this pretty seaside Costa Brava village, and get free time for lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant. Next, travel to Port Lligat, a coastal village where Dalí built a private retreat, now converted into a museum. Head inside (own expense) to explore, and after a panoramic drive around the spectacular Cap de Creus, finish your tour in central Barcelona.

Summer: Pubol Castle and Platja del Castell (July 1 – August 31):
Leave Figueres for Pubol Castle, once a home of Dalí and his wife Gala, located in the village of the same name. Visit the Gala Dalí House-Museum in the castle, and after lunch (own expense), venture to the attractive seafront town of Platja del Castell. Admire the castle-like house of muralist Josep Maria Sert, a friend of Dalí, where Dalí visited during the 1930s, and then return to Barcelona, where your trip ends.

Venture to one of the many beautiful beach side towns that dot the Costa Brava coastline. Please remember to bring suitable clothing if you want to enjoy a refreshing dip in the sea or relax on the beach.

Please note: The Salvador Dalí House in Port Lligat is closed between January 1 and January 4, and January 11 to February 11. On these dates, guests will see only the exterior of the house.

10.00am - You will arrive at the world famous Dalí Museum-Theatre in Figueres, the birthplace of Dalí, where you will be taken straight past the queues inside. Step inside the surreal world of Salvador Dalí and find a museum like none other. Dalí wanted visitors to see his massive collection as a ‘whole’ work, and for this reason he wanted no catalogues and refused to have his works placed in chronological or subject order. Inside is a world of fantasy mixed with architecture mixed with paintings and sculptures. It’s a complete surrealistic experience.

But what really stands out for many people is the dramatic drive there, which offers some of the best views in the whole of Catalunya. This is the perfect place for lunch. In the afternoon you will travel just a few minutes up the coast to the even smaller village of Port Lligat.

His studio looks as if he has just stepped out for a stroll, and thanks to the careful way it has been maintained, it's easy to image he is still living in the house. Fantastic Dalí tour with Rod
, Dec 2021
Our family of four toured to the Dalí museum in Figueres and the Casa Dalí in Port Ligat. We had a wonderful time, and our tour guide Rod was friendly, knowledgeable, engaged and a good driver. The tour made it very easy to see these sights, and the context Rod provided was helpful. It was worth the tour expense rather than navigating the train and bus options, plus we were educated on the way there and back! My only complaint is that we didn’t have quite enough time in the Dalí museum to really soak in the art on our own, and there wasn’t much time to visit the gift store. We managed, but I definitely need to go back one day for another dose!

Hello, If you really want to see as much as possible, joining one of our tours really is the best way to do it. We'd love t spend more time in the museum, but with so much else to do, it's impossible. Having said that, we will look into for our future tours. Thanks and a very Happy New Year.

Rod was fantastic. Highly recommend if you want an enjoyable day exploring the museum and also his home in Port Lligat. The connection between his home and many inspirations that he incorporated Into his art is amazing to see. One of our favorite museums and we would like to go back again! Rod was the perfect host to give us history and insights as well as time by ourselves to explore.

Hi, I will pass this on to Rod, but on his behalf thank you so much for the things you said. Regards, Robert
Magical day in Costa Brava
, Dec 2021
Absolutely one of the highlights of my stay in BCN. So happy I booked this tour off season. Enrique was our guide and he was fun and knowledgeable. I have learned so much about Dali. We ended the tour in a super special place called Cap de Creus with a acoustic guitar player/singer on the top of a mountain and sunset! It was magical!!! Thank you! Would recommend for sure!

Ask who is the guide
, Nov 2021
The tour is with the two destinations - Figueres Portlligat - is exceptional, Dali is a genius. Best choice to visit the two places in one day. Our guide was not at the top of his job, unfortunately.

Hello, I'd love to be able to offer an explanation for why your guide was not up to his job, but you don't give any reason why you were not happy. If you send us an email directly to explain why, I will look into it. Best regards, Robert

The van was comfy, and the trip was well paced- we had the right amount of time at the Dali museum and his house, and we had enough in Cadaques. I'd have been happy to have another hour there, so I could get lunch and ramble about (I had a quick snack and a long walk, others sat down for paella with views of the harbor) but I understand that we needed to get back to Barcelona at a reasonable hour. Our guide Geordie really knew his stuff, and was patient with our questions, interruptions, wanting photos, etc. Six people was a great tour group size. Parts of the trip were very hilly on small roads, so I was grateful someone else was driving! I'd recommend this trip to friends, and would look up Explore Catalunya for other tours if I'm ever back in Barcelona.
Overall great experience

It was such a delight to have a Arnau as a tour guide. He’s very knowledgeable and very professional. The Dali museum was a revelation of the person. The quirkiness and genius that is Dali. I am very glad that I was able to experience it. It would make you rethink about certain things. Cadaques was a nice seaside break. Dali’s house was another interesting revelation of the man. Go see it whenever you get a chance.

Hi, There's nothing quite as surreal as Dali! It looks like you had really good day. Thank you, Robert
