Great idea, tough weather
Sally_R
, Jun 2022
The river was beautiful and our guide, Corey, was excellent. We saw a great osprey nest and a few osprey, which was neat, and seeing Banff from the river is another great way to take in the landscape. Our only problems were weather and the other passengers. It was very cold and very windy, so the river was moving very fast. We needed everyone in the canoe to paddle, but half of the canoe did not so we were never able to actually get up the river, instead turning around halfway. The canoe trip is a great idea and has real possibilities, but you should know going into it that you do have to paddle for the first 30-45 minutes, and at times paddle with a lot of force. If you just want to sit and take photos, do a float trip instead of the canoe trip, which we also did and was very relaxing and required no work from the passengers. Also, the trip is really not for kids who are not old enough to paddle continuously. There was a child age 4 or 5 on board who got a paddle and just dragged it thru the water and splashed people, which was not fun for the other passengers. All in all, a neat idea that we would try again, but with hopefully better weather conditions and a full canoe of people willing to paddle.
Can you canoe? Absolutely!

Paddled up and back down a part of the bow River at Banff while being entertained by guide Mark with interesting snippets about animals, culture, the alpine environment and First Nation People. Prior to the trip Mark gave a little presentation on the.First Nation's people, a.very good safety lesson on canoeing and the beginnings of Banff.
Amazing and fun Canoe Ride on Bow...

Amazing and fun Canoe Ride on Bow Rider with excellent Guide Lucy Congrea. Lucy was not only very knowledgeable about the river, the animals and all things Banff but her enthusiasm was what made the tour great. We went as a family with 2 kids a 10 year old and a 5 year old and both were equally entertained and had a great fun time. She made my son who is 5 sit in front and called him Captain which we had to call him for the rest of the day. We also got to see 2 elk with a baby elk, and they even crossed the river which was cool to see. We also saw a muskrat. It was a great tour and I highly recommend it to anyone and especially for families. Ask for Lucy!

It was a nice change of pace being...

It was a nice change of pace being on the river. There wasn't anything earth shattering about the tour. You row up river for 30 minutes or so, pull over and look at a few things our guide pointed out and then float back to the start. It was a beautiful day and the trip was fun. Be sure to dress warmer than you think you should as once we turned around the wind was in our faces and I was glad I brought an extra jacket.
We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
