How our guide Jerome showed us local sites that we would have missed on our own. Jerome knowledge and experience made our trip very enjoyable

A smidge of Provence
Rod_W
, Jun 2022
It was nice to experience a “smidge” of the Luberon and see to Pont du Gard. Our guide, Mark, was articulate and caring. You need to know this is mostly a drive by subject to the tour company’s scheduling. For instance we drove through St Remy for that advertised segment. We had our longest time at Pont du Gard which had the least to see. Our whole-day tour was really two half day tours put together. Both started in Avignon so time was spent returning there and waiting for the next to start as we let people off and added them. Had I understood this I would have cancelled due to the waste of time. I figured it might be rushed in spots but not because I was paying to go pick up their next customer. The guide told us to buy food in one town because lunch would be rushed in the next, which did not have great places to picnic. Lack of communication and transparency made me feel taken advantage of and disappointed.

Thank you very much for your reply. We are sorry for these disappointments. Our visits are organized in full days without returning to Avignon, or in half days. We have a maximum of combinations to offer several visits. Concerned about customer satisfaction, we take your comments into account and try to be as transparent as possible with the tour operators who sell the services. Best regards A LA FRANCAISE TEAM

Fabulous tour!

Julian was an excellent guide. Each town has its own charms and he was very good about describing the character/history of each to us. The small group tour size was perfect.

Best day tour yet

Had a great day with guide Jeremy, who took us through some of the most beautiful sights in Provence. Plenty of time given to enjoy the stops, no rushing, and expert commentary added up to the best day tour we've had in 20 years of travelling. Well done, Viator.

Our guide Joanna was very informative, pleasant, and had very good driving skills. We covered four hillside villages all with amazing views ending with the aqueduct. We would highly recommend this tour it will leave you with lasting memories. It is a long day ,but worth every minute .

Though the tour guide seemed knowledgeable enough... this is not a tour... it’s a drive from location to location .. drop off and pickup ...

A good overview of the region

Easy pickup and drop off in Avignon, despite a major festival. The locations visited across the day were varied and all so beautiful. We fit a lot in one day. Our driver was really friendly, courteous and punctual. I had hoped to get more commentary across the day about the area and the locations we visited, instead of being dropped off and to find our own way around. All in all, a lovely day and great way to see the area when you have limited time.

Nice tour, but too long!

We have seen the places on the tour before. However we still enjoyed taking the tour. The only problem was, the tour takes too long, 10 hours almost. We would suggest to cut one or two attractions so people can have more time to see beautiful sides!

Stunning vistas well paced, presented, and organized, with a very informative and pleasant guide

I have taken a large number of guided tours at various places around the world, and this one was the best. Our guide, Joanna, is an energetic, charming and well-informed Provence native who is bilingual French-English. Her expertise includes local and world history, art history and a deep knowledge of wines. The choice of places to see in Provence are perfect and varied, and in each place you are given enough time to explore on your own, at your own pace, including deciding where you choose to snack or have lunch. So you don’t get talked to death or shunted around like cattle. I have mobility and small bladder problems, and the stops are timed perfectly for that, and there’s as much walking around at the beautiful towns and historical sites as you feel up to. I am sure the other guides are great, but you will have an outstanding experience if you get Joanna. If you visit Avignon but don’t take this tour you will miss the best part.

The guide made all the difference

We did this tour on the only rainy day of our two weeks in France. Our guide, Amar, made the best of less than ideal conditions and kept us engaged and happy. Low cloud ceiling and unyielding rain notwithstanding, this was a day to remember for all the right reasons.

An enjoyable visit to some of Provence's best destinations

We really enjoyed our tour with Joanna, who was very enthusiastic and knowledgable about all of the lovely spots we visited. She took the time to explain many of the interesting background details of the places on the tour, and gave us enough time to explore each site on our own. It was a long and diverse itinerary, but we truly came away with a sense of having seen some of the region's best attractions.

This was a great tour and a nice host. There was only one topic in the agenda that was not correct. When I purchased it, it referenced the tour would include a stopover in a lavender museum. When I brought it up to the host, he said he was going to fax it over to his office. There was no lavender on the agenda since in early September the fields are no longer in bloom. There was a pitstop to look at roman ruins in St. Remy. What no one explained is literally across the street from the ruins is the hospital that Van Gogh stayed at. I think giving the group an option of either venue for 30 minutes would of been a better choice.

Wonderful Small Tour

We had a great time on our tour. The guide gave just enough time for each place. Obviously we could have stayed longer in each place but then we wouldn't be able to see as much. It was the right balance.

Great driver and tour guide.

Our driver and guide was very accommodating, checked the group constantly for our feedbacks and comfort level. He obviously is very familiar with the region and has taken us to all the historic sites and special spots for photo opportunities. It is a long day trip, but well worth the money if you don’t have a car. Will highly recommend it to other travelers alike.

Take another tour , our tour guide...

Take another tour , our tour guide Francios showed up 25 min late , due to traffic , Traffic is always bad so I think you need to leave earlier .He was very kind and did call and the hotel let us know he was running late. Once in the van , in was nice but we had to request air conditioner to be on. We could not hear his low tone voice in the back seat , AT ALL. The speaker system was not working . we asked about rotating seats so at least we could hear some of it . He said no the other couple had motion sickness. SO basically for the entire trip we heard nothing. Once we got to the sites he stops and says go explore and no commentary was offered . in his defense if you directly asked him a question he was very happy to answer. At a market stop he dropped us off and said pick u up at the entrance in 1 hour , we waited 20 min then I went looking for him and found him on another street , again poor communication. Loved going to the open air market , favorite stop . We asked to go to a lavender field and he made a special stop for us to see that . we had a very rushed lunch , like 45 min at a lovely stop stop on the river. so basically he drove us to the sites listed and we explored on our own . I think too many stops and not enough explaining what we were seeing .Ask about being able to hear in the van don't go unless they have a microphone system in place .

The places visited were great but...
Martha B

The places visited were great but the guide was extremely rude and gave the one French speaker in the group extensive answers and carried on long private and personal conversations with her, while ignoring the 3 English speakers on the tour. Occasionally, she would give a brief explanation then continue her private conversation. She had no idea that 2 of the English speakers understood enough French to comprehend what was being said. We got more information from brochures and signage than from the guide. Unfortunately, we were assigned this guide for 2 tours and were stuck with her for 2 days. She was equally rude and discourteous on the other day when it was all English speakers.
