A perfect afternoon with a wonderful guide

A fabulous tour with a delightful guide, whose passion for the area was apparent. A great effort was made to engage with all of the guests and his extensive local knowledge added significantly to the trip.
Each stop was lovely, with every village having a unique charm. A wonderful introduction to an area I hope to visit again.

We met our guide Amar at the Visitors Info Center near the Central train station. He was prompt and friendly from the start. There was only one other couple in our tour and we were in a nice van. Amar was thoroughly knowledgeable about the area and he had a quality hand's free microphone attached to his driver's seat, so that we could hear his excellent commentary all through the day. The itinerary was to see the town of Roussillon, Gorde, Les Baux and Pont du Gard. These places in the Luberon area of Provence are so nice that any tour would be beautiful, but Amar gave us good hints of highlights at the stops and he parked the car in the best location to make it shorter walking and he was in the best location when we returned to the car. The pretty town of Gorde was just to be seen from a good vantage point, so we were pleasantly surprised when he also drove through the tiny town. We had a 45 minute stop at the famous red clay town of Roussillon which is not enough to walk all through the town, but Amar showed us a great place with a few shops, restrooms, cafe and fantastic view of the city and of the valley below. On the way to Les Baux we drove passed by St. Remy where Van Gogh stayed in the clinic. Across the road from the clinic Amar drove in front of the Roman triumphal arch that was part of the nearby ruins of the city of Glanum from 27BC - first century AD. A short distance away is Les Baux that sits on top of a steep hill that can be a challenge to hike up the parking lot and the hill, so when Amar let us out right at the entry to Les Baux & we were able to make the most of our 45 minute visit there. the last stop was at the Pont du Gard three tier Roman ruin. Again Amar let us out right at the walking path and while we walked across the aquaduct he drove around to our exit point and we could get right into the vehicle - personalized first class service !! Amar asked us and the other couple if we wanted to be dropped off near our hotel area or some other part of Avignon and again that was so helpful to be able to be in the spot best for us.
In order to see more of the beautiful Luberon area of Provence it would best to have several days in each of the areas we saw, but this excursion was a great way to be introduced and see the highlights in order to return sometime.
Our thanks to Viator and Amar !

My mom and I enjoyed our afternoon...

My mom and I enjoyed our afternoon exploring Provence on this tour with our knowledgeable and friendly guide. The tour was structured such that our guide would give us an introduction to each sight or village on the drive, then leave us free to explore each place on our own with clear instructions on when and where to meet up later. We visited Pont du Gard, Les Baux de Provence, and Roussillon. The tour was supposed to include a stop in Gordes as well, but since we hit a bit of traffic en route, our group collectively decided to limit Gordes to a drive-by so we could spend more time in Roussillon.
Overall, this tour was a great way to be exposed to the varied villages, history, and geography that makes up Provence. We just wish we had more time to spend in each place! For instance, a ticket for both Pont du Gard and its museum is included in this tour, but we only had 50 minutes total to spend at the site. We spent our first 30 minutes approaching and walking across the aqueduct, leaving us just 20 minutes to fly through the museum, only taking in a small portion of the exhibits. Likewise, we only had an hour in Les Baux de Provence, which was just enough time for my Mom and I to grab a snack and visit a few shops in the village. Our guide had suggested checking out the chateau at the summit of Les Baux, but the admission fee is not included in the tour, and I cannot imagine how someone could have squeezed in a visit without feeling completely rushed. Similarly, in Roussillon, we only had an hour, which was just enough time to make a pit stop at a restroom, admire the cliffs from the entrance of the ochre path, and then turn back to explore the village for about 20 minutes.
Despite the rushed pace, we got a lot out of this tour and very much enjoyed it. The sampling of sights and villages was diverse, and the scenic drives past vineyards, orchards, ruins, rivers, cliffs, and valleys were spectacular. We would definitely recommend this tour as a great albeit fast-paced introduction to Provence!

We visited many interesting sights during this trip and our guide Jeremy was excellent. He gave us adequate time to properly view places like Pont Du Gard and Rousillon, he gave us plenty of information about the places we were visiting, and his driving was very good. Although the trip was not cheap for an afternoon one, I felt that overall it was good value for money as we saw many fascinating places in Provence that we would have found it difficult or even impossible to reach from Avignon by public transport. Only slight downside for me, as a tall person sitting in the back seat, was that the vehicle had quite a low roof for a mini-bus which my head was almost touching, and I couldnt see as much out of the windows as I would have liked. Also, although not the companys fault, an elderly American tourist who I was sitting alongside at the back somehow went missing in Rousillon, and after spending an extra hour trying to find him, we eventually had to leave without him. As a result, the last part of the tour was in poor light. Can Viator shed any light on whether this gentleman eventually turned up safe and sound?

The best thing about this trip was obviously the Pont du Gard, but also the other sights were very interesting. The hotel pick up and drop off was very convenient, and I think the small group of 8 in the minivan was a good size for the trip. The driver/guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining and I highly recommend this half-day trip around Provence.

With a home base in Avignon and no car, this was great choice for us, since it included two villages in the Luberon, plus the pont du gard, places not easy to get to by train or bus. Our guide, Anais, was very knowledgeable, and shared information while driving to each location, then we were free to explore each place on our own. We highly recommend this tour!

Avignon is the ideal starting point for getting to know Provence. In addition to its jewels such as the Palace of the Popes and its famous Bridge and the ever-present wind, it is located in the center of Provence and through the beautiful villages of the Luberon: Les Baux, Gordes and Rousillon, passing from white calcareous to Ocher color, to finish in the incredible Pont du Gard

Great tour - small group, short and informative. The driver was wonderful and very friendly and provided great information. The actual time in each location was short but was enough time to get a feel for each location. There is a great bit of driving but the route is scenic and not too bad. All the locations would be difficult to travel to by public transportation so this a great way to visit these locations without renting a vehicle. For me I don't like taking long all-day tours and this fit unto my schedule perfectly. The meeting place in Avignon is the Tourist Office and it's easy to find.
