The ending. The walk in downtown and the stop at the Driskill. Guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

It was a lot of fun and very interesting. Our tour guide Daylan was outstanding. It would have been a little better if the stops on the tour were more directly related to the crimes but still a great time!
Response from Host , Jul 2022
Thanks for the review! We’re so happy your enjoyed your experience on Murder Walk Austin:)
We do our best to get as close to the actual crime sites as possible, (based on the 1st hand sources available) including three of the actual Murder sites from 1885. Thanks for your insights as we strive to get better with every tour:)
Best regards, Touratx
Great way to see the city!

An incredible evening with a wonderful guide: Tyler was amazing and taught us so much about Austin and its history. So glad we booked this tour.
Response from Host , May 2022
Thanks Helen! We agree that Tyler does a great job on the Murder Walk tour. This true crime journey back to the year 1885 is becoming very popular!!
We are so glad you were able to join us and that you love the experience. I will send your compliments on the Tyler:)

Zero stars! Don’t recommend, save 2 hours of your life for something else!

My negative experience had nothing to do with the tour guide. Tyler did the best with what he was working with, I guess! It was the tour itself. It was rather boring. A lot of walking and absolutely zero interaction between tour guide and group, we just listened to him talk for TWO hours. Lots of non verifiable info that was not mysterious nor fun. We just listened to a dissertation on a bunch of servants from the 1800s being brutally murdered. Yes, I understand this was a murder mystery walk but it was nothing like I anticipated. I wanted to quit literally 5 minutes into the tour beginning. Since the tour was at night it would have been cool to tour some of the actual buildings that the murders took place instead of looking in the direction that the guide pointed to where the murders happened. It was legit a waste of two hours of our lives that we will never get back!!! Ughhhh! And the absolute kicker is that after 2 hours of walking the tour didn’t end where it started so we have to walk back to the beginning point! Not a huge deal, but it would have been nice to know that ahead of time and not by way of a text 20 minutes before the tour started. We are history buffs and I love crime TV but this wasn’t it for me!

This was a great experience. First time doing a guided tour of this type and would recommend for anyone traveling to Austin. Our guide was Tyler. He had well placed stops to around the city to listen in on more information. He also had very good timing regarding the crossing lights and the surrounding environment.
Response from Host , Apr 2022
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your Murder Walk experience with Tyler! We take our true crime pretty seriously and a big part of that is hiring great communicators,
so everyone can hear, understand, and safely navigate the great streets of Austin.

Jim Miles was the tour guide and did a fantastic job. He did a good job explaining things in a sequential order and brought in facts about other serial killers as well. I did some research before this tour and my research took me away from the likely truth behind who the real serial killer was. I won’t spoil the killers identity but this is a must do tour if you got two hours to spare. Definitely 5/5 for those interested in Austin’s history and one of the biggest serial killers in our nations history. While on the tour I started thinking to myself that it would be cool if Jim had visual aids to help paint the picture and needless to say he already had that covered. Money well spent!
Response from Host , Mar 2022
Thanks for your review Jordan! It was awesome hanging out with you guys on the streets of Boston, what a perfect night for a true crime walk! I totally agree with you about visual aids. I’ve got a few great ones but I am continuing to add more as the tour grows. Great to see you and hope to see you again in the future!

Our book club read Midnight Assassin by Skip Hollandsworth. This Murder Walk was perfect for our Book talk. There were 7 of us that went and we all loved it! Tyler Rouse was wonderful! He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the topic . I highly recommend this walk , even if you haven’t read the book. Book Clubs…. Read this book and add the murder walk to your experience.
Response from Host , Mar 2022
I love reading reviews from people who have read the book and then taken the tour :-) Skip’s book “the midnight assassin” is indeed amazing! The events that transpired on the streets of Austin in 1885 are almost unbelievable… only it really happen! I’m so glad that you enjoyed the tour and hope you can come back and check out another one of our tours in the future!

In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.
