Choose a morning or afternoon departure, meet your guide in central Athens to begin your walking tour.

Keeping a relaxed pace throughout, head first into the Plaka, Athens’ Old Town. Spread around the slopes of the Acropolis, this charming district is known for the neoclassical townhouses, Byzantine churches, bustling tavernas, and independent shops crowded along its cobblestoned lanes.

Make your way through the streets and enter Anafiotika: a photogenic district of whitewashed houses and stepped lanes on the north side of the Acropolis. Trace the tiny passageways past blue-painted shutters and bright bougainvillea, and learn how the sugar-cube houses here were constructed in the 19th century by masons from the island of Anafi. Having been brought to Athens to build a royal palace, the stoneworkers designed their houses in the Cycladic style of their beloved home.

Stroll on to Mars Hill, also called the Rock of Ares (Aereopagus). Gaze up at the Acropolis from this marble rock as you discover how it was the site of both ancient Athens’ high court, and a famous sermon by St. Paul in AD 52. Next, continue to Philopappou Hill and pause at the rock chambers where the philosopher Socrates is believed to have been imprisoned in 399 BC.

Drink in the stunning views over Athens from the hilltop, and then revel in the setting as you enjoy a picnic of tasty Greek specialties with a glass of white wine.

After relaxing here, follow the pretty UNESCO-listed pathways back down into town. Along the way, pass the Philopappos Monument, the tomb of the admired Roman senator Philopappos, and then conclude your tour at the start point.

It was a beautiful day out in Athens. The pictures were beautiful and the perspective it gave us on Athens by ending the tour at the hilltop near the Prison of Socrates was the cherry on the sundae.

Our guide Daphne was there early and from the first introductions, we had a very interesting tour starting with the changing of the Guard at the President's Palace to a picnic of Greek snacks and wine on Filopappos Hill overlooking the Acropolis almost five hours later. Excellent day!!

Pleasant afternoon

Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and spoke english very well. We were lucky to have a beautiful day, but as it was Sunday afternoon, we didn't get to go inside any of the churches, and the Zappion was having an event, so not there either. Tour could do without the walk in Plakka (streets lined with souvenir shops) but the rest was charming. The advertised "picnic" was a piece of cheese pie and a piece of spinach pie for each of us, and the three of us split a mini bottle of wine. Very nice, but don't plan on it for dinner. We were the only couple on the tour, but actually would have liked a few more people to enliven the conversation. Be aware there is a climb up a steep hill, and a somewhat slippery descent, which may be an issue for some people.

What a highlight of our trip to Greece! Marissa was very knowledgeable and personable. We watched the Changing of the Guard with no one around, visited Hadrian's Arch, strolled through the three tiers of Plaka, and enjoyed a yummy lunch with views of the Acropolis among other sites. A great way to get acquainted with Athens!

We had Marissa spelling? as our tour...

We had Marissa spelling? as our tour guide and we cannot fault her. She was fantastic and she ensured that we were provided with the best tour possible. Out of everything we did in Athens, this was definitely a highlight. The tour itself is perfect to see all the things you never knew you wanted/planned to see. Photo opportunities are abundant and the information she gave us was really educational - Loved it! Thank you for an amazing morning!
