Overview
Follow your guide on a 45-minute horseback riding adventure at Arrowmont Stables and Cabins outside of Asheville, North Carolina. Choose from a variety of departure times, and ride the beautiful Fern Forest Trail, traveling through a dense forest on relatively flat terrain at 4,000 feet. This gentle trail, situated in the Nantahala National Forest, is suitable for all skill levels. Guided safety training plus a ‘test drive’ and helmet (mandatory for those under 18) are provided.

Upon arrival at Arrowmont Stables and Cabins in Cullowhee, North Carolina, meet the horses and begin a 40- to 50-minute safety program that includes a video or live horse training and safety demonstration. Get to know the horses' personalities and, if desired, try the horse of choice in ‘the ring’ before departing. Helmets (as well as raincoats/ponchos) are provided at no charge.
Travel through the Old Fort Lodge, a former youth camp that is still used for activities and special events, then embark on the beautiful Fern Forest Trail with your guide, riding through a lush, deep wood at 4,000 feet. Situated within the Nantahala National Forest, the trail is relatively flat considering its elevation and is suitable for all skill levels. Look for a variety of wildlife in their natural environment, including local wild turkeys and deer.
