Leaving Aruba Has Never been Easier
, Nov 2020
Anyone that has ever been to Aruba knows its hard to leave, both literally and figuratively. First Class Departure will help you on your way. First, they meet you at your airline check in and walk you up to the Priority Line. This saves up to 10-15 minutes and gets you on your way. Next, there is a long line that is required to show your passport and boarding pass. I've stood on this line for at least 45 minutes in the past. This single file line is comprised of every passenger, for each airline, leaving that day. Next you're escorted to the front of the line for security check point #1, saving another 30 minutes. Here you remove shoes, belts, empty pockets, etc. At this point, you're in the airport and can take a quick look at Duty Free. Your guide will later help you retrieve your alcohol once you clear the next check point. Next you're escorted to checkpoint #2 and are brought to the front of the line. If I recall correctly, you've just had to pick up your checked bag and have it re-checked, then you take off shoes and belt, and empty pockets again, for another security check. This saves you another 25-30 minutes. Now you enter US Customs/Immigration. If you don't have Global Entry - you must wait on line for 25-30 minutes. My hostess waited for me at the end of the line and then escorted me to the VIP lounge after we retrieved my Duty Free alcohol. The VIP lounge I'm told has a $40 cost (included/waived with use of VIP Departure service) and you have access open bar, fast WiFi and sandwiches. Overall, excellent service and value. My hostess was "Lilly" and was real pleasant. I went to Aruba during COVID season, so the lines were likely shorter. However, I can say this service saved me at least 90 minutes on this trip, eliminated any headaches and allowed me to relax during the whole departure process and while in the lounge pre-flight. I suggested this service to two guys I met at the hotel and was happy to see them again in the airport lounge. They were happy I shared one of Aruba secrets with them and will also suggest this service to others. Only problem is, with a well kelp secret, you don't necessarily want word to get out too much!
