Overview

Provence is world famous for its lavender fields but the startling purple landscapes can only be seen during the summer months. This seasonal full-day tour from Arles visits the lavender capital of Sault, the hilltop villages of Roussillon and Gordes, the Lavender Museum, and the magnificent lavender fields of Senanque Abbey.
  • Full-day Provence lavender fields tour from Arles
  • Shop for traditional lavender products in Sault and Roussillon
  • Explore the picturesque hilltop village of Gordes
  • Discover Provence’s lavender growing heritage at the Lavender Museum
  • Enjoy a photo stop by the lavender fields at Senanque Abbey
  • Small-group tour limited to 15 people ensures a personalized experience
Meet your guide and small group of up to 15 people in central Arles in time for departure. Traveling by air-conditioned minivan, soak up the scenery on the journey to Sault, passing fields blooming with purple lavender.

Learn why Sault is nicknamed the ‘Lavender capital’ of Provence as you browse the local shops and discover a huge variety of lavender products from essential oils and cosmetics, to lavender honey and lavender candles. Continue to Sault’s open-air market, where you can experience the atmosphere of a typical Provencal market and perhaps sample some regional specialties (own expense).

After lunch (own expense), pause to admire the striking red and yellow ochre cliffs of Roussillon, then continue to Gordes, a hilltop village renowned for its beautiful stone houses and magnificent views over the surrounding vineyards and olive groves.

Next, enjoy a photo stop at Senanque Abbey, renowned for its stunning landscape of blooming lavender fields (mid-June-August only). Finally, learn the secrets of Provence’s most famous export at the Lavender Museum (entrance ticket included) in Coustellet, where you’ll get to browse the exhibits and watch a demonstration of the distillation process.

On return to Arles, your tour ends back at the departure point.

Please note: depending on local market schedules, a visit to the open-air market in Sault may be replaced with the market at Roussillon.

Wonderful guide. Very informative and friendly. The lavender fields are spectacular and it was great to visit some of the smaller villages outside of Avignon to get more local character
