Lovely Trip to Bruges

This was a great tour! The tour company is Spanish and there were only a few English speakers, but the complete highlight of the whole tour is the amazing guide, Mar, who handled both groups in the most kind and gracious way! It is a very long bus ride with no stops (only in case of emergency), but once in Bruges, we divided up into an English-speaking and Spanish-speaking group. As the English group, we were so small that it was almost as if we had our own private tour! Our local guide (Mohammad) took us around the charming city of Bruges and then offered to take us to his favorite restaurant for lunch. We enjoyed the meal and the company. Then we had some free time. The biggest issue of the day was the terrible weather, which was certainly not the fault of the tour company!! It poured with rain and at one point, sleet, so that took away a bit from the enjoyment, as Bruges was such a lovely and charming place. However, we took the risk to visit in February and now we know that we would like to come back in the spring or summer! I’m not sure if the actual guided tour would have been longer if the weather had been better, but we did enjoy what we saw. It is a long day, around 12 hours and it would be nice to have a 15 minute bus stop each way just to stretch your legs and grab a snack or something. I would definitely recommend this company and the tour and if you can get Mar as your guide, you will be so very lucky! One thing I would like to mention is that there was a situation during the tour that required Mar to make some quick decisions and really figure out the best option. She had every right to be upset and put out because of this issue caused by an inconsiderate guest. However, she was so gracious and managed to fix a difficult situation with kindness and humor. We had a great deal of respect for the way she handled herself under pressure. As it happened, we were booked with the same company on another tour the next day and although there was a different guide for the English speakers, we got to ride the bus and interact a bit with delightful Mar again- by this time, we felt like old friends!

I've been to Bruges in tours before, joining a tour is the best time saving way to go, and cheaper. This tour was all I needed. The bus was very comfortable running on schedule, and the guide (Spanish) did a short talk leaving us to nap as much as we needed it. Once in Bruges, the group was divided in two, the Spanish tour was leaded by the tour guide that traveled with us, and the English guide was waiting at the bus stop to start her own tour. The tour lasted about an hour and a half, and even when I did these tours before and nothing was new to me, I really enjoyed Guiomar's anecdotes and history facts. The rest of the time, about two and a half hours, we did whatever we wanted (eating and shopping were my priorities). December in Bruges means Christmas Markets, so you can have good food without the waiting at a restaurant. If you like quiet time on the bus, and a very affordable way to visit this beautiful town, go for this tour.
