  • Look out for nesting puffins at the cliffs of Tjörnes peninsula (early summer only)
Discover the rustic beauty of northern Iceland’s Diamond Circle. Your full-day tour begins with morning pickup from your Akureyri hotel in a minivan and a scenic drive north into the remote, rugged landscape.

Stop first at Godafoss, the ‘waterfall the gods,’ and admire the icy cascade that flows over a semicircle of jagged cliffs. Visit the nearby volcanic Lake Mývatn and the jagged peaks of Mt Námafjall. Learn the history of this wildly active geothermal area as you pass by the steaming vents, dormant craters and bubbling mud pits of Hverir.

Journey through Vatnajökull National Park, where you can watch the 144-foot (44-meter) Dettifoss waterfall empty into an ice-covered ravine. Continue on to other natural wonders like the Jökulsárgljúfur glacial canyon, Vesturdalur valley, Hljóðaklettar’s echoing cliffs and the towering, crescent-shaped Ásbyrgi canyon.

Revisit civilization with a stop in the village of Húsavík. Here you can take a dip in the new GeoSea Baths or enjoy free time exploring the town, perhaps stopping at the Whale Museum or purchasing a snack at a local cafe.

Afterward, if you are touring between early June and late July, enjoy an extra stop at Tjörnes peninsula to view the cliff-side nests of wild puffins. At the end of your day in the Icelandic wilderness, relax on the return drive to Akureyri, where you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel in the evening.

This tour was amazing, and while the sights would have been amazing regardless, this particular tour was made amazing because of our guide, Bjarki. We did several types during our trip, and Bjarki was the best guide we had - sunshine who truly loved his country and his job! We learned AND saw tons!

This tour was a great way to see the top spots in north Iceland. The guide was very informative and knowledgeable and had grown up in the area. My only criticism is the cost -$250 per person is a lot to pay, even though it is a 10 hour tour.

My friend and I are the only two travellers in this tour, so it became a private tour. But it is really good and the guide, B____forget how to spell his name is really really good. He shows his enthuasiasm answering all our questions. Always has simile and patient. Highly recommended.

Great tour. Great guide who appealed to all members of small group tour. No small feat. The members spanned three continents and ranged in age from 9 to 50.

Great to have a guided tour for the day to see the sites of northern Iceland. Nice small group style tour. Guide was super knowledgeable and fairly flexible with a tour got a few bonus stops since most of the group was quick. Unless you absolutely love 4x4 driving, this is the best way to see the Diamond Circle.
