This is a Story Walk & one of our most popular tours, certified by so many travelers through the years! If you like listening to stories about the Raj days and Kolkata then this is your tour! It is a very interesting story of how the British started trading in this part of the world rivalling earlier European entrants. Many a booming cannon later, they became the leading traders. What followed was a small fort, a big port, a great battle, many changing fortunes and lots of colonial cunning & politics. The East India Company & later the Flag of the Empire gave a lot of importance to Calcutta for its trading, political and administrative clout. She was after all the Capital of British India for a long time & arguably the second most important city in the Empire. Along with Defense & Administration came institutions for Entertainment, Education & Emancipation. The light of European renaissance came as an ambient source & later cascaded into its own indigenous, self generating brightness.

* A traveler said: "This tour was a great last minute option for us as it provided for everything end to end. From the minute we left our Pune hotel to the minute we arrived back we were guided - except obviously on the airplane. The pick up in Delhi airport was waiting and Prem our driver gave us a fantastic welcome, including flower leis and snacks for the road trip to Agra including beers and water. Our tour guide Mahesh joined us in Agra and the he provided a very detailed knowledge and understanding of the Taj and its history. Starting early the next day made all the difference particularly with the crowds. He has a real passion for the city and being a local and part of the culture makes a difference. The shopping was good as well and it gives you the opportunity to experience some of the history of the arts and crafts of that era. Just be weary that if you express the least bit of interest in an item the sales men willl force it on you. Dont be afraid to force a haggle. One item went from 2400 to 1000 and you can potentially go lower buy walking away. All in all it is a very efficient, easy and safe way to get around Agra. On the way back as we wanted to visit a few places in Delhi the guide was ok for us to get lunch on the go from anywhere included in the trip so we could do that which is the part of the beauty and flexibility of the Indian people. Pick up from the hotel a bit earlier in Pune would have seen us be able to factor in a few other things into Delhi or relax a bit more when we arrived in Agra. Be prepared for a very active 48 hours but well worth the trip. Even Raj, the travel coordinator kept tabs on us the whole way via WhatsApp making sure we arrived after flights and to hotels every step of the way. He was also in constant contact with the tour guide and driver making sure everything was fine all the way to arrival back at your Pune hotel. Thanks Raj, Mahesh and Prem we had a great time and look forward to the next experience."

Our city has witnessed many more cultures in its past than most others would even in this globalised present. Here we will trace for you the origins and remains of the varied communities that hung their boots and called Calcutta home. Lets check out why Chinese breakfast still rules Tiretta Bazar, where the Parsis are dwindling in numbers with each passing day and how the Armenians gave the city its oldest surviving Christian church while we pass the Anglo-Indians, the Muslims, the Marwaris, the Biharis and many more that made this city a great melting pot of diverse cultures. This is one of our most popular tours and highly recommended to get an idea of the melting pot that Calcutta is.

A hassle-free day trip for travelers to Kolkata who want to see India’s greatest monument to love, the Taj Mahal, which is on the other side of the country. Relax on this full day trip as flights, road transfers, and a sightseeing itinerary are arranged for you. In Agra, enjoy the iconic Taj as well as the UNESCO-listed Agra Fort, and maybe some shopping, before returning to Kolkata.

* A traveler said: "Despite not having much time during my trip to India, I decided to take this one day trip to the Taj Mahal. From Kolkata there is a 2 hour flight and then a 3 hour drive down to Agra but the effort is well rewarded when you arrive on the site. It really is one of the key places in the world to see. Also the convenience of drivers and guides makes the trip so much easier. In fact I highly recommend using a guide like Rocky at the Taj Mahal as navigating the entrances, tickets, lines, shoe covers and key photo spots is important on top of the knowledgeable history explanations."

* A traveler said: "We were able to do some research and provide our guide with a list of our interests ahead of time. This enabled him to plan a route and determine what there would be time for and what was within a reasonable driving distance. We expressed interest in the wetlands as we're interested in birds and the guide, who is also a naturalist, took us to a fantastic bird sanctuary within the city and we got some totally fantastic pictures. We were in Kolkata during a festival that jammed up the roads and on a day when it was raining. Both the guide and the driver made super human efforts to enable us to at least get photographs of the places in which we were interested. This was a phenomenal tour, partially due to the skills and enthusiasm of our guide. BUT kudos to Viator for making something like this available - it was hard to find a tour where we were interested in everything that was included and this facilitated a wonderful experience tailored to our interests."
