The Basics

The gardens of Versailles are famous for their spectacular musical fountain shows and evening fireworks displays, held throughout the summer months.

Most visitors opt to discover Versailles on a half-day tour from Paris. With wait times lasting up to two hours, it’s worth booking skip-the-line entrance tickets if you plan to visit both the palace and gardens. You can explore the gardens on a self-guided tour, but visiting with a tour guide can be helpful if you have limited time or want to learn more about their history.

Best ever
This was a long day for us. For our feet. Having said that. The best tour we have taken so far. The guide was sooooo amazing, knowledgeable and kind. I feel bad for not recalling her name. I think it’s Nina. So so smart and kind. We had the best day riding bikes through the gardens, and Just seeing the grounds. The market where they take you to get fresh fruits, cheeses, juices, or sandwiches it amazing. We bought so much to bring back w us as well. But we sat and enjoyed the most yummiest foods and the breeze and scent of air. Omg! And next the castle that will simply blow your mind. Grand is too small of a word.

Versailles: Food & Palace Bike Tour
Niki and Stu are super fun and organized and tech have the tour down to a science. Stu has extensive knowledge of French history and we leaned so much. Biking around the town of Versailles was fun! You feel like the locals shopping at the market for the picnic. Biking is a great way to cover the garden of Versailles as it is huge! What a nice day it was and it will be one of the best memorable days we spent in France!

Versailles Palace Skip the line Guided Tour with Fountains Show Option
We really enjoyed this tour, found it to be a great way to see some of the highlights of Versailles. This place was really big and it’s impossible to see it all but although we only hit some of the highlights, having a guide made a huge difference. Our tour guide Quentin,, was great at telling stories and proving historical context, which made for a very memorable experience. . He also took time to answer questions. At the end we had plenty of time to wander and explore on our own.

Great tour and company. We had trouble getting a cab to the meeting location and we’re late. They helped us still get there and had a lovely tour. Easy to get tickets.

Versailles Palace Private Skip the Line Access Half Day Guided Tour from Paris
Arnaud and Bo are wonderful. That made the entire process very smooth. No was super informative and took her time with us. She speaks great English and is able to translate everything we needed. They picked us up from our hotel and even waited as we were running late

Versailles Palace & Gardens Tour from Versailles with Optional Fountain Show
We had a wonderful guide, Emile, who was extremely knowledgeable on the history of Versailles and easily navigated us through all the rooms. He added quite a bit of color, telling side stories and contextual information that you wouldn’t typically get in a standard audio tour. Versailles, itself, is a beautiful structure to behold and the gardens are wonderful. It was easily the most crowded place we visited in France even though we were told this was actually very light compared to normal non-Covid times. I had heard the crowds were the worst part of Versailles, but it wasn’t too bad and in some rooms that were backed up Emile was able to navigate us through quickly but still transfer his knowledge to us. Highly recommend.

Versailles Guided Tour from Paris in Small-Group
Our guide, Flore was one of the best highlights of the trip. She is so knowledgable, friendly and fun! Now the reason for 4/5 stars....The tour itself may be a bit overpriced as it is a half day and fairly rushed, but if you factor in the history lessons and ease and safety of transportation, then you see the value.

SUMMER WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND

Versailles Palace & Gardens Tour from Versailles with Optional Fountain Show
"If only the walls could talk", they say.. Well with a fantastic and knowledgeable guide like Summer, it seemed like walls DID talk and tell tales/history of the beautiful palace of Versailles. She did an outstanding job keeping the group engaged (I did not want for the tour to end!), timed our excursion perfectly to watch what felt like a private fountain show in the garden, answered everyone's questions with detail and was very attentive to group's needs (even though she was not our original guide, she made sure to wait on all participants/made several attempts to contact them as not to leave anyone behind - very few guides would do that, from my experience!) I highly recommend Summer as a guide!!

Versailles Guided Tour from Paris in Small-Group
This tour left right on time. Our tour guide Claire was just fabulous. She was very informative on the ride over to Versailles without talking the entire time. Upon arrival at Versailles we saw that we were one of the first groups to arrive so we were anxious to get inside. Unfortunately, it took Claire over 30 minutes to get our entry tickets. It was out of her control but in that time other groups began to arrive. The tour inside was still awesome as there weren't the usual throngs of people due to restrictions recently being lifted. The wait for the tickets also shorted us some free time at the end. I would have liked a bit more time in the gardens to explore but all in all I would definitely recommend this tour.

When to Get There

The Versailles Château Gardens are open year-round, but by far the most popular time to visit is in high season (April to October) when Musical Fountains Shows, Musical Gardens, and Fountains Night Shows take place. On show days an admission fee is charged, and it’s best to visit early in the morning or just before closing to avoid the busiest periods. Visiting in low season means smaller crowds, but for conservation purposes the fountains are switched off, the groves are closed, and many of the statues are covered.
