Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa Tours

Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa
Maxell Aqua Park is an aquarium with a difference. Combining tanks of marine creatures with LED illuminated displays and music, it offers an elevated entertainment element. Located inside the Shinagawa Prince Hotel complex, the park is best-known for its dolphin show in which the mammals jump into the air and perform acrobats.

The Basics
The park is divided into several areas with different types on marine life in each. There’s the Jellyfish Ramble in which you see the creatures in ever-changing luminescent tubes and tanks, and there's the Wonder Tube, which offers an experience akin to Scuba diving—you see sharks, rays, sawfish, and more. Another favorite to see: Wild Street with otters, seals, and penguins.

You can avoid the stress of waiting in long ticket lines by booking your general admission ticket in advance. You can then explore the aquarium independently at your own pace.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Maxell Aqua Park is a must-visit for those traveling with children.
  • If you sit in the first few rows at dolphin show, prepare to get wet, or grab a waterproof poncho, available in the park.
  • Visitors staying at select Prince-brand hotels receive discounted admission.
  • The park’s layout can be confusing, so pick up a map at the entrance.
  • There is an on-site restaurant.

How to Get There
Maxell Aqua Park is a 2-minute walk from Shinagawa Station, which is on the JR Shinkansen, JR Yamanote, JR Keihin-Tohoku, and Keikyu lines. The station is not served by Tokyo Metro but is connected to the Toei Asakusa Line via Keikyu. Shinagawa is a big, sprawling station so be sure to take the Takanawa Exit.

When to Get There
The park is open daily from morning through late evening, with the last entrance generally at 9pm. The dolphin show, which is held nine times a day, is very popular, so plan to take your seats around 30 minutes before start time. The park gets especially crowded—and the lines long—on weekends and especially school holidays.

Shinagawa Aquarium
Maxell Aqua Park should not be confused with Shinagawa Aquarium, although the latter may hold appeal for those with an interest in marine life. Shinagawa Aquarium is home to a variety of creatures, including penguins and sharks, and it hosts dolphin and sea lion shows. It’s around 30 minutes from Maxell Aqua Park on the Keikyu Line.
